    • Disclosed is a method for operating an air conditioner in a warming mode, including the 100% operation performing step of operating/stopping all of compressors, the load determining step of determining a warming load to be eliminated after completion of the 100% operation performing step, the 100%/X% operation performing step of operating all of the compressors when it is determined at the load determining step that the warming load is not large, subsequently stopping a part of the compressors, and subsequently stopping the remainder of the compressors, the sensing step of sensing the number of stoppages of the remainder of the compressors after completion of the 100%/X% operation performing step, and the X% operation performing step of operating/stopping the remainder of the compressors when the sensed number of stoppage times reaches a predetermined number. Since the 100%/X% operation is carried out in response to a warming load generated after the 100% operation, this method properly copes with the warming load at an initial stage of the warming mode. Further, since the X% operation is carried out after the 100%/X% operation is repeated in a predetermined number, the method of the present invention precisely and promptly copes with the variation of the warming load.

    • Disclosed is a method for controlling noise reduction of an air conditioner comprising the steps of: (a) stopping a compressor, when the air conditioner is stopped under the condition that the compressor and an outdoor fan are operated; and (b) stopping the outdoor fan after a designated time after a point in time when the compressor is stopped in the step (a) elapses, thus reducing the size and duration of noise generated by the flow of the refrigerant due to a difference of inner pressures in the air conditioner and allowing the noise at a designated frequency band generated by the flow of the refrigerant, which causes unpleasantness to users, to be concealed by noise generated by the operation of the outdoor fan. Accordingly, the method of the present invention increases reliability of air conditioner products.

    • Disclosed are an air conditioner in which one or more compressors are operated so that the refrigerant compression capacity of the operating compressor(s) is variably changed in accordance with a cooling or heating load for cooling or heating air in a room, and a method for controlling an electronic expansion valve of the air conditioner. The air conditioner comprises a plurality of compressors for compressing a refrigerant; a condenser for condensing the refrigerant; an electronic expansion valve for expanding the refrigerant; an evaporator for evaporating the refrigerant; a direction change valve for changing the flow direction of the refrigerant; a refrigerant pipe for connecting the compressors, the condenser, the electronic expansion valve, the evaporator and the direction change valve; and a microcomputer for controlling the operation of the air conditioner, wherein an opening degree of the electronic expansion valve is controlled so that a current degree of superheat coincides with a target degree of superheat set in consideration of the refrigerant compression capacity of operating compressor(s) and an outdoor temperature. The air conditioner prevents the refrigerant in a liquid state from being introduced into the compressor(s) and the compressor(s) from overheating, and rapidly eliminates the cooling or heating load.
