摘要： A method is described for stereoselectively reducing an unsaturated alkyl ketone substituent attached to a fused ring base. In this method, the unsaturated alkyl ketone reacts with a chiral oxazaborolidine reagent. This reaction stereoselectively reduces the unsaturated alkyl ketone to an unsaturated alkyl alcohol. The unsaturated alkyl alcohol can be further reduced, if desired, to produce a saturated alkyl alcohol. The fused ring base can be, for example, a steroid ring base or a base of a vitamin D analog. The process in accordance with the invention can be used with an alkeneone substituent (e.g., a 22-ene-24-one substituent) or an alkyneone substituent (e.g., a 22-yne-24-one substituent) on a steroid ring base to make squalamine or other useful aminosterol compounds and intermediates for making aminosterol compounds.

摘要： A novel approach to the early detection of colorectal cancer (“CRC”), using a molecular diagnostic test to evaluate grossly normal-appearing colonic tissue for the early detection of colorectal cancer is disclosed. Such grossly normal-appearing colonic mucosal cells may be collected from non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures. The use of novel biomarker panels for drug screening also is disclosed. Such biomaker panels may be used wholly or in part as surrogate endpoints for monitoring effectiveness of a prospective drug in the intervention of pathologies, such as cancers, for example CRC, lung, prostate, and breast, and neurodegenerative diseases, for example Alzheimer's and ALS.

摘要： The technologies described herein are based on the discovery that expression of a toxin gene under control of an eosinophil-specific promoter can cause the ablation of eosinophils in a transgenic animal. Accordingly, the nucleic acid constructs featured in the invention are used to generate eosinophil-deficient transgenic animals that are useful for the study of pathologies and treatments relating to tissues and organ systems that typically contain eosinophils.

In response to the pre-established account existing, the system switches the collect call to a prepaid platform. Alternatively, in response to the pre-established account not existing or the pre-established account having insufficient credit to debit against the call, the system places an inquiry call to the second party. In response to the inquiry call, the system creates for the second party an account to debit against the call. A method for the same is also disclosed.

摘要： A system and method for providing hot swap capability with minimal changes in a system which uses existing circuitry and drivers. In one embodiment, a computer system has a host processor and a hot-swap-capable device, each coupled to a Compact PCI bus. The device includes one or more pre-existing circuits (ASICs and/or standard off-the-shelf circuits) and corresponding pre-existing drivers. A hot-swap-capable bus bridge is interposed between the circuits and the Compact PCI bus to provide hot swap functionality while allowing the pre-existing circuits and drivers to be used without modification. In one embodiment, an Intel 21554 is used as the hot-swap-capable bus bridge. The 21554 is programmed to emulate a transparent bridge. Modified drivers in the OBP firmware and OS software allow the system to recognize the 21554 in this transparent configuration and to probe the secondary side of the 21554 for the circuits.
