    • The present invention relates to selection of sites of a communication system for measurement units that are for measuring a feature of wireless signals so that the location of a wireless station may be determined based on the measurement. Each measurement unit provides a measurement coverage. In the method a first set of information is defined, said first set relating to sites that are possible locations for the location measurement units and to the coverage provided by the site if it is provided with a measurement unit. A second set of information is defined that relates to signalling environment within the sites. Based on the defined first and second sets of information, a third set of information is defined, said third set associating each site with access entities of the communication system. Based on the third set of information, appropriate sites can be selected for the location measurement units.

    • The invention proposes a method for locating a network element, comprising the steps of obtaining (S1) the coordinates (xS, yS) of a second network element (BTS) to which the first network element (MS) is connected or attached; detecting (S2) a serving area (S), which is served by the second network element (BTS); detecting (S3) a propagation delay of the first network element with respect to the second network element (BTS); determining (S4) a propagation delay depending area (C), which is an area having a distance to the second network element (BTS) based on the propagation delay and a width based on the propagation delay; and forming (S5) an intersection area (I) of the serving area (S) and the propagation delay depending area (C); wherein a location estimate of the first network element (MS) is determined (S6) from the intersection area (I). Thus, an uncertainty area where a first network element is located can be reduced and the location accuracy can be improved.

    • The invention relates to a method for determining transmission times of signals transmitted by at least one radio transmitter BTS. In order to enhance the accuracy and reliability of estimates of transmission times or of changes of the transmission time of signals transmitted by radio transmitters BTS, it is proposed that a difference in the time level of estimates of the transmission times based on the measurement results of two different radio receivers LMU A,B is taken into account in a filtering of the estimates for obtaining an accurate value for the transmission times.     • A method of providing information regarding the location of a mobile user equipment (1) in a system wherein the location is determined based on information signalled from entities (10) of a positioning system and assistance data signalled from a station (5) of a communication system. In the method the likely location of the mobile user equipment relative to the station is first determined. Based on the determined likely location, an estimate of the delay in transmitting a signal from the station to the mobile user equipment is estimated. Assistance data is then signalled from the station to the mobile user equipment, said assistance data comprising information about the timing of the positioning system. A more accurate location determination is accomplished at the user equipment based on signals from the entities of the positioning system, the assistance data and said estimated delay.

    • In a method in association with a communication system a request for a connection is signaled between a user equipment and another party. The requested connection is then analyzed. Subsequent to detection that location information is required in association with the requested connection, a process for determining information about the location of the user equipment is activated. First information in association with the determining process is communicated on a control plane between the user equipment and the communication system, while second information in association with the determining process is communicated on a user plane between the user equipment and the communication system. An arrangement in association with location services and a user equipment capable of providing location information is also disclosed.
