    • There is disclosed herein several gas resupply valves for replenishment of lost gas in gas lasers in general and argon ion lasers in particular. The first embodiment uses a valve which controls flow of gas into a metering volume. The metering volume has an aperture therein which is microscopically small and which has a diffusion constant for gas moving through the aperture which is less than the time the valve is held open. The second embodiment uses the same general structure, but separates the soft sealing member of the valve from the solenoid core which moves to open and close the valve. The soft sealing member is attached to the valve body and supported above a valve seat surrounding the opening of the metering volume. The third embodiment uses a thin diaphragm which overlies a flat surface of the valve body in which are formed an input port and an output port. A solenoid applies pressure against the diaphragm to cause it to flatten against the flat surface thereby sealing the valve.

    • A simulator for request/response systems may be mechanized without the use of manual programming or coding. An interactive rule creation window, supported by a GUI, allows the user to create a rule for fashioning a reply to a message. The rule specifies which messages it applies to and describes the appropriate response. The rule is created in the form of metadata through the rule creation window. In one embodiment, the metadata is compiled and made accessible to a response engine. If desired, additional rules may be created in similar fashion. Any rule can be edited to alter the rule it represents. The response engine has access to the rule or rules and reacts to receipt of a message to interact with the compiled rules to either produce an appropriate response or no response as called for in the rules.

    • A tube guard system is provided for use in a flourescent light fixture and comprises at least one lamp assembly. The lamp assembly further comprises a lamp having two ends and having at least one terminal at each end, a sleeve having two ends and surrounding the lamp, and an end cap having a concentric opening formed thereupon affixed to each end of the sleeve whereby the terminals protrude through the openings in the end caps. A pair of lampholders affixed to the fixture receive each lamp used in the fixture whereby the terminals are placed in contacting relation with the lampholders. A preferred lampholder has a lamp center line of at least ⅝″, thereby allowing the use of low-profile lampholders having a lamp center line of ⅝″, or standard lampholders having a lamp center line of ⅞″. Preferred sleeves and end caps are of polycarbonate materials in order to provide heat and ultra violet resistance. Lampholders are mounted to lampholder saddles, as desired, which are in turn mounted to the light fixture.
