    • The invention concerns a system (1) for automatically controlling air intake in a vehicle (200), comprising information providing means (410) for collecting information concerning the presence of an airborne hazard (300); transmitting means (420) arranged for transmittal of a control signal (S) based on said information; and a vehicle air intake control device (100) provided in the vehicle, said device comprising means (110) for receiving said control signal (S), and air intake means (120) arranged for switching between an open mode and a closed mode in a vehicle compartment (130) based on the reception of said control signal (S). Accordingly, an effective and safe closure of the air intake of the vehicle (200) precedes the entry of said vehicle into said area or alternatively precedes the arrival of said hazard (300) to a certain area in which the vehicle is already present. Further, the automatic closure may be initiated irrespective of type of gas or pollutant the airborne hazard includes, and of the driver being aware of the approaching danger. Accordingly, the vehicle driver and possible occupants may be automatically protected against harmful gases and pollutants emanating from emergencies.
