摘要： A method for allowing on-line authorization in an access environment. The method includes receiving a request for access to a location at a gate access device from a user. After receiving the request for access to the location, an authorization request message is generated. The authorization request message includes an authorization to charge a predetermined amount of money. The authorization request message is then sent to an issuer for approval. An authorization response message is then received. The authorization response message indicates whether or not the charge is authorized or not authorized. If the authorization response message indicates that the authorization response message is authorized, then the user is allowed to access the location.

摘要： A message confirming a transaction for the purchase of an item can include identifiers for the item and for a consumer as well as information pertaining to the transaction. The item identifier is used to locate an express warranty for the item. The consumer identifier (e.g.; a number of an account issued to the consumer) is used to locate the consumer's file in which the express warranty is stored along with at least a portion of the information pertaining to the transaction. Other data received in respective messages can be also be stored in the consumer's file. Thereafter, the consumer identifier can be use to retrieve all express warranties stored in the file for past respective purchased items. Information about each express warranty can be compared to the stored portion of the information pertaining to the transaction so as to retrieve only those express warranties that are valid (e.g.; unexpired).

Challenge questions may be presented from the non-merchant to the consumer after receiving the payment information, thereby allowing a judicious determination of when to ask such challenge questions and allowing complex and probative questions. The time limit for such challenge questions may advantageously be unconstrained, while still preserving security. Also, a risk analysis may be started prior to the consumer submitting payment information, thus allowing an efficient and complex risk analysis. Information about an access device used by the consumer may be obtained at the non-merchant from the access device with code sent to the access device from the merchant, and the device information may be used in the risk analysis.

摘要： Application level switching of transactions at a gateway (104) is provided. The gateway is configured to switch the transaction based on the application level content, a current state of a transport environment, and/or dynamic rules for switching transactions. For example, several possible service providers (108) can be selected for the type of transaction, and the gateway can monitor not only the round-trip time through the network(s) (106) to different possible service providers, but also the time required to complete the transaction at the application level and return a response. The application is chosen on the sending side of the network, and application level formatting is done on the sending side as well. The gateway uses modular code and data, and separate instances of processing code to allow dynamic updating. Rules for application service selection can be selectively uploaded to the gateway from a client (102). The rules for different available application services can be distributed across different gateways.
