摘要： Disclosed is a composition for purification of water having a compound of Iron and a compound of Aluminium wherein the ratio of total Iron to total Aluminium is in the range of 1:0.1 to 1:150, the basicity of the compound of Aluminium is at least 40%, and the iron compound is a ferric compound in an unhydrolysed state. The composition may be used to provide purified water having not greater than 10 ppb Arsenic or purified water having a turbidity value of less than 1 NTU.

摘要： Disclosed is a method of modifying surface characteristics of alumina, said method comprising the steps of: (i) forming an aqueous mixture comprising one part by weight of alumina and a monomeric or polymeric compound of Aluminium equivalent to 0.001 to 0.1 parts by weight of Aluminium content; (ii) equilibrating the mixture for at least five minutes; (iii) increasing the pH of the mixture to 6 to 8; and, (iv) drying said mixture, where said method comprises an additional step of increasing the pH of the mixture to 3.0 to 5.0 between steps (i) and (ii) when said compound of Aluminium is monomeric.

摘要： The invention relates to a composition and a process for purification of contaminated water, especially for the removal of harmful contaminants like Arsenic in addition to the removal of other harmful microbial contaminants and suspended particulate impurities, to make the water suitable for human consumption. It has been found that a flocculation/disinfection composition which comprises certain double layered hydroxides which contain at least one selected divalent cation and at least one selected trivalent cation provides for enhanced arsenic removal.

摘要： The invention relates to a water purification composition. The invention particularly relates to a water purification composition that is especially useful for removal of trace quantities of harmful contaminant like Arsenic in addition to removal of microorganisms like virus, bacteria and cyst to make the water suitable for human consumption. It is thus an object of the present invention to provide for a water purification composition that meets the Arsenic removal requirements. In particular, it is another object of the present invention to provide for a water purification composition that provides purified water with low Arsenic content that meets the WHO standards of less than 10 ppb, especially Arsenic (III) compounds. Accordingly the present invention provides a water purification composition comprising: (a) a coagulating agent which is a water soluble inorganic metal salt having trivalent cation; (b) a flocculating agent which is a high molecular weight water soluble polymer; (c) an adsorbent which is a water insoluble oxide, hydroxide or oxo-hydroxides of titanium, zirconium, iron, copper or zinc; and (d) a biocide which is a halogen compound.

摘要： It has been determined that a layered double hydroxide of the general formula [(M 2+ ) 1-x (M 3+ ) x (OH) 2 ] x+ (A n- ) x/n mH 2 O, where, M 2+ is Zn 2+ , Cu 2+ , Fe 2+ or Ca 2+ ; M 3+ is Al 3+ or Fe 3+ and A n- is CO 3 2 -, OH - , Cl - , NO 3 - , SO 4 2- or PO4 3- , "x" is in the range of 0.05 to 0.5, "n" is in the range of 1 to 10, and "m" is in the range of 0 to 10; wherein said layered double hydroxide is granular having minimum particle size of 50 µm, is useful for significantly enhanced lifetime but also to keep residual metal content of purified water low. Such granulated material is effective in combination with other filter materials like activated carbon, thereby making it an effective and efficient medium of purification of water.
