Preparation of organometallic compound (II) of formula R 1> m-M 3>-T nzLiX comprises reacting an organic compound (III) of formula R 1>-A with a metal (M 3>)-containing compound in the presence of a lithium compound (IV) of formula LiX and a metal (M 2>). R 1>J 1>; J 1>3-24C-(hetero)aryl (optionally containing B, O, N, S, Se, P or Si), linear or branched 1-20C-alkyl (optionally substituted), 2-20C-alkenyl or 2-20C-alkynyl, 3-20C-cycloalkyl (optionally substituted) or their derivatives; M 3>Mn, Cu, Zn, Sn, In, La, Ce, Nd, Y, Li, Sm, Na, K, Bi, Ti, Al, Mg, B, Si or S; A : T 1>; T 1>halo (preferably F, Cl, Br or I), a sulfonate of formula RSO 3 -> or a phosphonate of formula -OP(O)(OR) 2; R : J 1>; X : T 2>; T 2>F, Cl, Br, CN, SCN, NCO or hal 1>O k, NO 3, BF 4, PF 6, H, a carboxylate of formula RxCO 2, a disilazide of formula (Rx 3Si) 2N, a thiolate of formula SRx, an alcoholate of formula ORx, RxP(O)O 2 or SCORx, an amine of formula RxNH, a dialkyl- or diaryl amine of formula Rx 2N (preferably a cyclic alkylamine), a phosphine of formula PRx 2 (preferably a cyclic phosphine), O jSRx, NO r or their derivatives, or H; T : T 1> or T 2>; Rx : 4-24C-(hetero)aryl (optionally containing B, O, N, S, Se, P or Si), linear or branched 1-20C-alkyl (optionally substituted), 2-20C-alkenyl or 2-20C-alkynyl, 3-20C-cycloalkyl (optionally substituted) or their derivatives; k : 3 or 4; hal 1>Cl, Br or I; M 2>Li, Na, K, Cs, Mg, Ca, Mn or Zn; j, r : 2 or 3; n : 0-3; m : 1-3; and z : greater than 0. Independent claims are included for: (1) a process to prepare an organometallic compound (I) of formula R 1>-M 1>-A dzLiX comprises reacting (III) with a metal (M 1>) in the presence of (IV); (2) the organometallic compound (II) (where M 3> is not Mg); (3) a solution comprising (II) in a solvent; and (4) a product obtained by the reaction of an electrophile with (II). M 1>Mn, Cu, Zn, Sn, In, La, Ce, Nd, Y, Li, Sm, Na, K or Bi; and d : 0 or 1.
