    • 1478544 Brushes UDDEHOLMS AB 24 Oct 1974 [27 Nov 1973] 46144/74 Heading A4K [Also in Division C7] A plate cleaning apparatus comprises brushes 3a, 3b arranged coaxially in pairs and having bristle carrying surfaces facing each other, and means for conveying the plates 6 to be cleaned between the brushes of each pair. The plates 6 are fed by drive rollers 5 over tables 7 and between the brushes 3a, 3b which are arranged in two parallel rows transverse to the path of the plates 6. One brush 3a of each row is rotated by a motor 43 via a pinion 40 engaging a toothed gear 20 on the brush 3a, which drives the remaining brushes 3a in the row via similar toothed gears. The brushes 3b may be similarly driven. Cleaning liquid is sprayed on to the plates 6 by spray tubes 31, and by nozzles 8 carried by the brushes 3a, 3b, the bristles 9 of which are arranged annularly. The individual brushes may have concentric rings of bristles, and the ring radii of opposed brushes may be different to permit intermeshing without contact when not cleaning. Spacing between opposed brushes may be adjustable. Outer bristles of adjacent brushes may intermesh.

Workpieces to be degreased are located in recesses 25 on the periphery of a hollow closed horizontally rotating cylinder 16 which feeds the workpieces into and out of the vapour cleaning zone 3. The liquid degreasing agent in the container is vapourized at 7 and the vapour passes into zone 3 via 12. The vapour is condensed by cooling pipes 10 and flows into zone 2 via 11. The level of zone 2 is maintained by overflow pipe 13. The workpieces are charged and discharged into and out of recesses 25 by a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder on to conveyor 28. The workpieces are cleaned by the vapour in zone 3 and also by the liquid solvent e.g. trichloro or tetrachloroethylene in zone 2.
