    • A fixing device includes a fixing member that fixes a toner image on a recording material, a pressure applying member that is pressed against an outer peripheral surface of the fixing member and forms a press-fixing part therebetween through which the recording material having an unfixed toner image is transported, a heating unit that heats the fixing member, and a pressure-applying-member-moving unit that moves the pressure applying member and changes the pressure applying member between being pressed against the outer peripheral surface of the fixing member and being spaced apart from the outer peripheral surface of the fixing member. The heating unit heats the fixing member at the start of a fixing operation under heating conditions corresponding to a change in the state of the fixing member occurring when the pressure applying member is pressed against the outer peripheral surface of the fixing member by the pressure-applying-member-moving unit.

    • A fixing device includes a magnetic-field generating unit that generates a magnetic field; a substantially cylindrical fixing rotational body that faces the magnetic-field generating unit, generates heat by electromagnetic induction of the magnetic field, and melts and fixes a developer image to a recording medium; a temperature-sensitive contact part that contacts an inner side of the fixing rotational body, and faces the magnetic-field generating unit, its permeability decreasing if its temperature becomes a permeability-change start temperature or higher; and a temperature-sensitive non-contact part arranged at the inner side of the fixing rotational body to face the magnetic-field generating unit in a range different from the contact part, and spaced from the fixing rotational body. An angle defined by the contact part and the center of the fixing rotational body is 60° or larger.

    • The fixing device includes: a fixing member including a conductive layer and fixing toner on a recording medium by electromagnetic induction; a magnetic-field generating member generating an alternate-current magnetic field intersecting with the conductive layer; a magnetic-path forming member that includes a circular arc facing the magnetic-field generating member, that forms a magnetic path of the alternate-current magnetic field, within a range up to a permeability change start temperature, and that allows the alternate-current magnetic field to go through the magnetic-path forming member within a range exceeding the permeability change start temperature; and a support member supporting the magnetic-path forming member. The circular arc shaped portion has an upstream edge in a moving direction of the fixing member and a position of the upstream edge is concaved toward a center of the magnetic path forming member from each of ends of the magnetic path forming member in a longitudinal direction.
