    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer apparatus capable of achieving size reduction of the apparatus and cost reduction, while suppressing generation of temperature unevenness of thermal transfer rolls.SOLUTION: The thermal transfer apparatus of the invention comprises, as a pair of thermal transfer rolls: a first thermal transfer roll which is rotated by driving force from a driving source; and a second thermal transfer roll of which position with respect to the first thermal transfer roll can be moved, the second thermal transfer roll rotating following the first thermal transfer roll, at a position where the second thermal transfer roll is in contact with the first thermal transfer roll via a laminated sheet. The thermal transfer apparatus further includes: an idle roll disposed between the first thermal transfer roll and the second thermal transfer roll; and an idle roll movement mechanism for, when thermal transfer is executed and the second thermal transfer roll is in contact with the first thermal transfer roll via the laminated sheet, moving the idle roll to a position where the idle roll is not in contact with the second thermal transfer roll, and when thermal transfer is not executed and the second thermal transfer roll is not in contact with the first thermal transfer roll via the laminated sheet, moving the idle roll to a position where the idle roll is in contact with the first thermal transfer roll and the second thermal transfer roll.
