In the first and second gasket base plates 11, 12, full beads 11a, 12a are swollen at the side of periphery portions of cylinders 3, and half beads11b, 12b are swollen at a site outward of the full beads 11a, 12a. The full beads 11a, 12a of the first and second gasket base plates 11, 12 are formed so that top portions 11c, 12c of the full beads 11a, 12a face each other at positions that are opposite to each other in the up-down direction. The shim 15 and the pressure increasing plate 16 are sandwiched between the top portions 11c, 12c.

摘要： A receiving portion 13 and a base of a cam cap component 8 are molded in one piece and firmly integrated. The base 12 functions as a cam cap. Accordingly, the position of a cam angle sensor 2 attached to the receiving portion 13 relative to a rotor 6 attached to an intake camshaft 4 is firmly and accurately determined. Deformation and vibration of a cylinder head cover 20, which are likely to occur since the cylinder head cover 20 is made of resin, are absorbed by a gasket 24 between an opening 22 of the cylinder head cover 20 and a sleeve 14. The deformation and vibration are therefore prevented from adversely influencing the positions of the sleeve 14 and the cam angle sensor 2. Therefore, the cam angle sensor 2 is capable of accurately detecting the cam angle without being influenced by vibrations and deformation of the cylinder head cover 20.

摘要： In an open-deck cylinder block (1) which is cast with a cylinder liner (3) incorporated therein, a MMC sleeve (4) that is made from a metal matrix composite is closely fitted on the outer periphery of the cylinder liner (3) and the outer periphery of the MMC sleeve (4) faces a water jacket (12), at a deck-face portion of the cylinder block (1). Thus, a layer made only from an aluminum alloy is not present in the deck-face portion, whereby the strength of the deck-face portion is enhanced. Also, the strength of the entire cylinder bore portion is enhanced by fitting the MMC sleeve (4) on the entire outer periphery of the cylinder liner (3). Thus, it is possible to provide an open-deck cylinder block having an enhanced strength at its upper-end portion of the cylinder block, and a method for producing such cylinder block.

As a result, the portion of the die which is used to mold a water jacket (50; 450) does not need to be made thin, thereby increasing the life of the die. Further, cylinders (12; 412) are of a simple shape and the pressure in the axial direction of the cylinder (12; 412) is able to be dispersed substantially evenly between the cylinders (12; 412) and the outer cylinder block (6; 406), thus enabling the cylinders (12; 412) to be thin. Accordingly, there is an increased degree of freedom in design of the portion which forms the water jacket (50; 450). The water jacket (50; 450) and the cylinders (12; 412) can therefore both be made sufficiently thin, thereby contributing to a decrease in both the size and weight of the engine.

摘要： A sleeve allowing the insertion of an oil control valve therein and used by inserting into a mounting hole formed in a cylinder head cover. The outer surface of the sleeve body of the sleeve is covered by a rubber-like elastic body layer. The rubber-like elastic body layer comprises projected lines formed around oil holes to surround the oil holes formed in the sleeve body.
