    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color picture tube which prevents displacement or fall-off even when an impact or vibration, by making a fitting which maintains an accurate relative positions of a mask frame and a glass panel, and obtains improved reliability.
      SOLUTION: The color picture tube is provided with a tube body 1 with a phosphor screen 4 formed on the inside face of the front side, a stud pin 10 with its base end firmly fixed to the tube body and with the tip part protruding inward, and a mask frame 9 sealed in the tube body with a shadow mask 8 opposing the phosphor screen and fitted with a holder 11 on the periphery face to be engaged with the stud pin. A protrusion T is set at either the tip of the stud pin or an opposing face of the holder opposite to the tip of the stud pin, and a recess K is set at the other, so that, the mask frame is supported by the stud pin through the holder by engagement of the protrusion T and the recess K.

      SOLUTION: The shadow mask 7 comprises a mask body 14 and an auxiliary body 20 which overlie each other. The mask body has a principal mask plane 40 having an effective part opposed to approximately the overall surface of a phosphor screen and having electron-beam holes formed therein, and a skirt part 17 extending from a peripheral edge of the principal mask plane. The auxiliary mask is secured in place as it overlies an area near the minor axis Y of the effective part of the mask body, and is formed in a strip with the minor axis serving as its longitudinal direction. The auxiliary mask has a skirt part positioned to overlie the skirt part of the mask body. In the area where the mask body and the auxiliary body overlie, either the skirt of the mask body or the skirt part of the auxiliary mask is secured to the mask frame.

SOLUTION: Hole diameter of a coincidence part of a large hole and a small hole of a shadow mask for practically deciding size of the electron beam passing through an open hole is gradually increased from the center of the effective surface to an intermediate part, and gradually reduced from the intermediate part to the longitudinal end thereof, and the hole diameter provided over from the center to the longitudinal end through the intermediate part is formed with the maximum at the intermediate part. With this structure of shadow mask, deterioration of mechanical strength of the shadow mask flattened in response to the flat effective part of a panel is restricted, and hole diameter of a coincidence part of the large diameter and the small diameter for practically deciding size of the electron beam passing through the open hole can be appropriated.
