    • PURPOSE:To restrict an abnormal increasing of a catalyst temperature of an excessive increasing of a pressure loss at the catalyst by a method wherein a temperature of gas sent from an upstream side of a catalyst inlet to the catalyst is detected and an amount of air fed into a combustion device through an air supplying port in response to the detected gas temperature is controlled.     • PURPOSE:To reduce NOX to the extremely small quantities and at the same time contrive to improve the combustion efficiency and to prolong the service life of catalysts by a structure wherein a honeycomb catalyst, the main component of which is noble metal bearing lanthanum chromite, is arranged on a front stage in a gas turbine combustor equipped with a plurality of catalysts as combustion aids. CONSTITUTION:A combustor equips with an ordinary noble metal bearing honeycomb catalyst 7, a honeycomb catalyst 8, which is arranged on the front stage side of the catalyst 7 and the main component of which is noble metal bearing lanthanum chromite, a secondary fuel nozzle 10, and a primary fuel nozzle 11 and yet the catalyst 8 generates heat by nergizing. The fuel 12 jetted from the nozzle 11 mixes with combustion air 3 and then passes through the catalyst 8. At this time, catalytic combustion occurs regardless of the temperature of said mixture of the fuel 12 and the combustion air 3 being low. Once the catalytic combustion occurs, the temperature of the catalyst 8 is maintained by the electric power and heat of combustion. The total quantity or a part of the primary fuel 12 is burnt at the catalyst 8, resulting in heating the secondary fuel 13 and combustion air 3 up to a high temperature necessary for starting catalytic combustion at the catalyst 7. The heated mixture of the fuel 13 and the air 3 is catalytically burnt at the catalyst 7, resulting in establishing low NOX and highly efficient combustion.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst for purifying noxious gas having high activity, long life and high vibration resistance, obtained by a method wherein a metal carrier of which the pore size and void ratio are specified is coated with a gamma-alumina layer containing Ce, La and Sr and the coated carrier is allowed to support a noble metal. CONSTITUTION:An Fe-alloy such as a stainless steel plate is assembled into a honeycomb structure and pitting with a pore size of 100-1,000mum is formed by electrolytic action to fabricate a carrier having a void ratio of 80% or more. A gamma-alumina coating layer 2 containing about 5-30wt% of one or more of Ce, La and Sr is formed on this carrier. About 0.01-10% on the basis of the total amount of a catalyst of one or more of a noble metal such as Pt or Pd is supported by this coating layer 2 to form an oxidizing catalyst. Because this oxidizing catalyst is excellent in heat resistance and vibration resistance, it can be efficiently utilized in purifying exhaust gas.

    • PURPOSE:To contrive to reduce the amount of NOx discharged from a space heater and to improve the combustion efficiency of the heater by a method wherein a honeycomb- shaped semiconducting ceramic heater (PTC heater) with positive resistance-temperature coefficient, on the surface of which metallic catalyser is carried, is used in combination with a honeycom catalyser for catalytic combustion purpose. CONSTITUTION:Fuel mixed with combustion air 4 is supplied to an inlet 7 in the upstream part of a honeycomb-shaped PTC heater catalyser 1 and to dampers 6 arranged between said honeycomb-shaped PTC heater catalyser 1 and a honeycomb catalyser 2. Combustion gas 8 from the honeycomb catalyser 2 is heat-exchanged with the combustion air 4 by means of a heat exchanger 5. At the start of a heater, the dampers 6 are closed and fuel-air mixture is supplied through the inlet 7 to the honeycomb-shaped PTC heater catalyser 1 in order to perform catalytic combustion. With the lapse of time, the temperature of the combustion air 4 is raised by the combustion gas 8 up to the temperature, at which the honeycomb catalyser 2 starts its catalytic combustion. At this time, the dampers 6 are open so as to supply the major part of the fuel-air mixture between the honeycomb-shaped PTC heater catalyser 1 and the honeycomb catalyser 2 in order to perform the most part of combustion at the honeycomb catalyser 2.
