摘要： Disclosed is a composite polarizing plate wherein a transparent protection layer (40) is formed on one side of a polarizer (30) which is composed of a polyvinyl alcohol resin and a retardation film (20) composed of a polypropylene resin is bonded to the other side of the polarizer (30), which is opposite to the side on which the transparent protection layer (40) is formed. The retardation film (20) composed of a polypropylene resin may be made of a homopolymer of propylene, or alternatively made of a copolymer with another monomer which mainly consists of propylene. A liquid crystal display is obtained by arranging this composite polarizing plate on at least one side of a liquid crystal cell (50).

摘要： This invention provides a polarizing plate comprising a polarizer formed of a polyvinyl alcohol resin on which a dichroic dye is adsorbed and aligned. A protective film is stacked on both sides of the polarizer. At least one of the protective films is formed of a propylene resin. In stacking the protective film formed of propylene resin on at least one side of the polarizer, a method is advantageously adopted that the protective film on its surface to be applied onto the polarizer is subjected to corona discharge treatment and the polarizer is applied onto the treated face through an adhesive.

In the manufacture of a coating liquid by mixing an organic solvent, an organic modified clay complex and a binder resin, an organic solvent, an organic modified clay complex and a binder resin are mixed, and furthermore, an adsorbent which can remove impurities included in the mixture is added for processing, and thereby, a coating liquid for a plate with a coating having phase difference is manufactured. This coating liquid is applied to a base and dried, and thus, a plate with a coating having phase retardation is manufactured, and in addition, a polarizing plate 11 having an adhesive layer 12 is pasted to a plate with a coating having phase retardation 15 that has been formed on a transfer base 20, in such a manner that the adhesive layer side of the polarizing plate makes contact with the exposed surface of the plate with a coating having phase retardation, and then, the transfer base 20 is removed from the plate with a coating having phase retardation 15, and thereby, a compound polarizing plate is manufactured.

The composite retardation plate (10) of the present invention can effectively suppress light leakage attributed to the cracking of the second retardation plate (14), liable to occur because of an external physical force, when laminated on a liquid crystal cell, because the first retardation plate (11) and the second retardation plate (14) are laminated on each other through the primer layer (12). Thus, it becomes possible to provide a sufficient display condition.
