    • A compatible disk drive is disclosed which is capable of writing and reading data on either of first, second and third interchangeable flexible magnetic disk cartridges of different storage capacities at first, second and third prescribed data transfer rates, respectively. The first and second disk cartridges have a first and a second capacity discriminate window, respectively, formed in different prescribed positions in their housings by way of contradistinction from each other and from the third disk cartridge which has no capacity discriminate window. The disk drive customarily employs two disk sensors for discriminating among the first, second and third disk cartridges. The invention ultilizes the binary outputs from the two disk sensors for the detection of the loading of any of the three types of disk cartridges, thereby dispensing with an additional sensor heretofore employed for that purpose.

    • A disk storage device includes a head part for writing data to a storage disk inserted into the device and for reading data from the disk, an eject member which is operated when a disk cartridge containing the disk is ejected, a turntable for rotating and driving the disk thereon to perform data recording and reproducing with the head part, a holder for holding the disk cartridge containing the disk, the holder placing the disk at a read/write position on the turntable when the disk cartridge is inserted, a slider which is disconnected from a latch lever when the disk cartridge is inserted and is moved in a direction parallel to the direction of insertion of the disk cartridge so as to place the disk at the read/write position on the turntable, and a movement mechanism for moving the holder and the disk cartridge from the read/write position of the turntable to an insertion position in response to a movement of the slider in the direction opposite to the first direction when the eject member is operated. In this device, the eject member is mounted flat on an upper portion of a frame of the disk storage device which portion is parallel to a surface of the turntable, the eject member having an operation part which is operated by applying an external force thereto, and a transfer part connected to an end portion of the slider.

    • A storage file for particular use with a flexible magnetic disk having a series of concentric magnetic tracks thereon, comprising a four phase stepping motor for moving a transducer head radially of the magnetic disk. The stepping motor has several sets of first, second, third and fourth phase windings arranged sequentially in the order named. A radial drive control circuit is provided which normally acts to cause energization of the stepping motor windings in a single phase drive mode to cause rotation of the rotor by discrete increments. In order to prevent the rotor from being trapped in alignment with the third phase windings, instead of being returned to the first phase windings, when the disk file is electrically turned on, the radial drive control circuit further functions to briefly energize a selected one or more of the second, third and fourth phase windings of each set, with the simultaneous or subsequent energization of the first phase windings. This makes it possible to positively return the transducer head to the outermost track zero position on the magnetic disk, for the commencement of proper data transfer therebetween, despite the unavoidable sensing errors of an optical "track zero" sensor commonly built into the device.

It is structured such that a channel cross-sectional area of a cooling air channel 50 that is formed between the inner duct 20 and the outer duct 30 and through which the air ejected from the ejection holes 31 flows gradually decreases at an air flow downstream side rather than the portion where the ejection holes 31 are formed, and gradually increases from a throat portion 60 having the minimized channel cross-sectional area to an air flow downstream side.
