    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an austenitic stainless steel material which can prevent stress corrosion cracking that occurs in a work hardened layer or a HAZ at the surface of a steel material used for equipment, a pipeline and the like in a nuclear power plant or the like, and to provide a weld joint thereof.
      SOLUTION: (1) The austenitic stainless steel material comprises 0.10% or less C, 1.5% or less Si, 0.1-2.0% Mn, 20-35% Cr, 18-65% Ni, 0-3% Mo, 0.001-0.15% N, and the balance Fe with impurities among which P is 0.05% or less and S is 0.05% or less; and has a work-hardened layer in the surface layer harder than that in a wall center part by 50 or higher by Vickers hardness. (2) The weld joint of the austenitic stainless steel includes the austenitic stainless steel material having the above composition as a base metal and the work hardened layer and has the hardened layer in a welded heat affected zone in the surface of the base metal, which is harder than that of a wall center part of the base metal by 50 or higher by Vickers hardness.
