    • In an embodiment, state of a wireless channel on which information is received is measured; the measured state is used to select from a codebook a plurality of N codewords which optimize a predefined measure, and first and second codewords of the plurality are reported which best optimizes and next-best optimizes the predefined measure. If by example the above is done by a user equipment UE, in another embodiment the network receives first and second indications, searches a codebook using the first and second indications to find the first and second codewords; and utilizes them to improve the channel state information, such as by interpolating between them to find an estimate of the channel. In examples the channel is a MIMO channel that is estimated at two or more antenna ports, there are interpolation weights sent with the codeword indications, and the interpolating uses a geodesic algorithm.

    • An apparatus and method for wireless devices have a scalable bandwidth allocation for operating in different bands at different data rates and provide interference prevention between co-existing modes of operation. MAC frame logic selectively defines first characteristics of a first operational mode corresponding to a first wireless link type and second characteristics of a second operational mode corresponding to a second wireless link type. A transceiver coupled to the MAC frame logic communicates, in response to the MAC frame specification, a first protocol data unit for the first operational mode having the first characteristics for the first wireless link type and a second protocol data unit for the second operational mode having the second characteristics for the second wireless link type. Interference detecting logic detects interference conditions in the first wireless link type and allocates suitable areas for operation of the second wireless link. The same principle used in scaling WLAN to WPAN operation, can also be applied at the lower bit rate of WRAN, in which case a larger range is achieved using a narrower bandwidth and lower a clock rate.

    • A user's downlink component carriers DL-CCs are divided into groups. An aperiodic CQI/PMI report is triggered by signaling (for example one bit). There is a pattern that maps the signaled trigger to a particular DL-CC within a group of DL-CCs that are configured for a user equipment UE, and that mapped particular DL-CC is determined to be the subject of the aperiodic report. In various embodiments the pattern is implicit and points to the DL-CC for which an aperiodic report has not been sent for more than a threshold time interval; or to the DL-CC for which resources have not been allocated for a periodic report; or to every DL-CC in the group that are activated for the user equipment. Examples are detailed for apparatus, method and computer program from the perspective of the network and from the perspective of the UE.
