    • A disk drive spindle and spindle motor assembly is mounted on a support platform which is translated reciprocally toward and away from a stationary disk cartridge by a pair of rotationally driven cranks positioned along opposite sides of the platform. The cranks are coupled to the platform by eccentrically mounted support rods loosely captured in the span between dual sets of parallel, compliant leaf springs attached to side edges of the platform. The rotational cranks are provided with a degree of overtravel to forcefully urge the platform, when in the operational position, against precision stops formed on the underside of a mount plate located between the platform and disk cartridge. The spatial relationship of a disk engaging surface on the drive spindle relative to the precision stops is such as to precisely position the rotating disk in parallel with the tracking axis of the read/write head of the system. A pair of holes in the platform mate in sliding relationship with a pair of locator pins depending from the mount plate to maintain correct x-y positioning of the platform during its reciprocal translation.

    • A disk cartridge comprises top and bottom opposed spaced-apart plates defining a compartment in which an information recording disk is rotatable. A front peripheral wall joins the top and bottom plates with an aperture in the front peripheral wall communicating with the compartment. The disk cartridge is provided with a brake mechanism that latches the disk axially and radially in an operative plane until the cartridge is inserted fully into a drive mechanism. The brake mechanism also functions to protect the disk against damage, abrasion, cracking and the like, by eliminating annoying rattling when the cartridge is jostled during transporting or in handling. The disk brake mechanism comprises a unitary spring-biased pivotally mounted brake member on one side of the disk center for engaging the periphery of the disk and clamping the disk between the brake member and a pair of angularly spaced nooks located on the opposite side of the disk center.

    • An interface member providing flow communication of particulate material between a particulate material receptacle and a housing of a mechanism for replenishing particulate material from a receptacle to a remote reservoir. The interface member includes a casting defining a flow communication passage. A plate is attached to the casting at an angle to the horizontal to define an angled entrance to the casting. A member, associated with said angled entrance plate, is provided for guiding and holding the marking particle receptacle at a corresponding angle to the horizontal when the receptacle is installed on the angled entrance plate, whereby the angled orientation of the receptacle lets air percolate into the receptacle while the receptacle is emptying, allowing the particulate material to flow freely out of the receptacle.

    • Cartridge positioning apparatus for loading and unloading the disk cartridge of an information storage disk drive system employs a dual function, motor-actuated, laterally moving linear drive mechanism to drive a plurality of drive plates located in an interstitial space between a cartridge receiving guide means and a central mount plate by means of a drive tab extending up through the mount plate. The tab engages a camming plate which operates against the central portion of a pivoted sector gear to convert the lateral tab drive motion into amplified longitudinal motion parallel with the direction that the disk cartridge is inserted and removed. The camming plate includes an idling provision to hold the sector gear stationary while the motor-performs other load functions. The sector gear drives a longitudinal drive mechanism which carries one or more members adapted to contact the disk cartridge for loading or unloading the cartridge depending on the direction of movement of the motor-actuated drive tab.

    • Tracking instrumentation for measuring human motor control includes a load cell or potentiometer for converting a force or position to an electrical signal. An analog-to-digital converter periodically samples the electrical signal and converts it into a series of digital words representing a force amplitude value. A computer system includes a monitor for displaying a tracking element, the position of the tracking element controlled by the digital words. The computer system further includes means for displaying a tracking pattern on the monitor and plotting scaled values on the monitor superimposed on the tracking pattern. The values are plotted so that the user operating a handgrip can adjust the handgrip in an attempt to track the pattern across the monitor. The system further includes means and methods for recording and analyzing the tracking performance data and for objectively scoring the tracking data.
