    • A clutch assembly in a torque converter including a piston plate operatively arranged to apply axial pressure to a clutch in the clutch assembly. An annular member can be rotationally connected to a cover of the torque converter and rotationally connected to an outer circumference of the clutch. A first seal can be disposed between the piston plate and an inner circumference of the drive plate to form a seal between the piston plate and the inner circumference. In some aspects, the annular member is a drive plate arranged to transmit torque from said cover to said clutch and the annular member is fixedly secured to said cover by a weld. In other aspects, the first clutch plate is axially displaceable with respect to the annular member and the piston plate is axially displaceable with respect to the annular member.

    • According to the invention, the fabricated vehicle wheel includes a conventional full wheel rim and a unique wheel disc joined to the wheel rim. The wheel disc includes an inner wheel mounting pad, an outer annular rim connecting flange and a plurality of radial spokes connecting the inner wheel mounting pad to the rim connecting flange. The rim connecting flange extends in an axial direction and defines a side edge surface extending between each pair of adjacent spokes. A plurality of windows are formed in the wheel disc. Each of the windows has a predetermined shape defined by the adjacent spokes and the side edge surface of the rim connecting flange. The rim connecting flange and the side edge surface are configured such that the window extends to an outermost periphery of the wheel disc. The inner wheel mounting pad includes at least one rib provided therein. The rib has an outer surface and an inner surface, at least one of the outer surface and the inner surface is provided with a flat planar surface.

    • An improved apparatus and method for assembly of a hydrokinetic torque converter which comprises a hydraulic pump, a turbine, a stator, a driven hub, and a housing that is driven by the output element of an engine of a motor vehicle, and which functions to transmit torque to the hydraulic pump is disclosed. In such a torque converter the housing is coaxial with the pump and the turbine, and further defines an interior chamber, which encloses the turbine as well as a bypass or lockup clutch cooperating with a torsion damper having an input member and an output member. The present invention provides a positive interlocking connection between the output member of the torsion damper and the driven hub of the turbine by forming a circumferential array of staked protuberances in the driven hub to compressively engage a mating circumferential serration formed in the output member to prevent axial rotation thereof Thus, the inherently complex manufacturing processes required to form the internal and external splines conventionally utilized to interlock such components are eliminated thereby reducing the manufacturing costs of the torque converter.
