摘要： A helmet has an outer shell, an inner lining configured for thermal communication with a wearer's head, an intermediary layer disposed between the outer shell and the inner lining with a layer of insulating material with a plurality of passageways therein and a cavity defined by the outer shell and the outer surface of the intermediary layer, and a fluid contained between the outer shell and the inner lining. In another variation, the insulating material includes a shape memory polymer operable to change the size of one or more of the plurality of passageways when activated. In yet another variation, the helmet has one or more selectively closeable pores in its outer shell and may have a fixed or detachable fluid reservoir.

摘要： This invention relates to a fuel reforming apparatus for producing a carbon-monoxide free reformed fuel gas comprising hydrogen. More particularly, this invention relates to nonthermal plasma reactors for removing carbon monoxide from a reformed fuel gas produced from a fuel containing bonded atoms of hydrogen exiting a reformer. More particularly, this invention relates to nonthermal plasma reactors for reforming a fuel containing bonded atoms of hydrogen into a reformed fuel gas. This invention relates further to hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells, which comprise a fuel reformer for reforming a fuel into a reformed fuel gas comprising hydrogen, a carbon monoxide remover for removing carbon monoxide in the reformed fuel gas and supplying the reformed fuel gas to the fuel cell.

摘要： A solid-state power processor circuit and method is used to supply power to generate a discharge in a corona discharge pollutant destruction apparatus. The circuit uses field effect transistors (FETs) and integrated circuit devices based upon metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) technology to amplify low-voltage pulse signals to high voltage levels. A resonator in the power processor circuit generates sinusoidal oscillation from the high voltage pulses, and provides the high-voltage, high-frequency electrical power necessary for corona discharge.

摘要： Disclosed herein is an arrangement for shielding individual electronic units from undesired microwave or millimeter wave radiation while providing a means of transferring input and output signals and operating power through the shield wall. A metal box encapsulates an electronic unit. Input and output signals are fed into and transferred from the electronics unit through the shield wall using optical links and photo transmitting and receiving components. Power is transferred through the shield box wall using piezo crystals secured to the outside and inside of the shield box wall and a dielectric rod connected between the two piezo crystals through a hole in the wall. Electrical energy therefore can be transferred into mechanical energy transferred through the box wall to the piezo crystal within where it is received and transferred back into electrical energy. Accordingly, metal feedthroughs are not needed, eliminating any paths for radiation to enter the shield box.

摘要： A pollutant destruction apparatus has a corona discharge reactor attached to conductive end plates at the ends of the reactor. The reactor has inner and outer electrodes deposited respectively on the inner and outer surfaces of a hollow dielectric cylinder, the interior of which defines the reactor chamber. The inner electrode is electrically connected to the end plates, which are grounded, while the outer electrode is connected to a high-voltage power supply to establish a corona discharge. The outer electrode is tapered near the ends of the reactor to reduce the possibility of arcing. A hole in each end plate is aligned with the reactor chamber to allow gas flow into and out of the reactor.
