    • An after glow control system for an engine, which controlls the voltage to be applied to glow plugs of the engine, is disclosed. The system comprises a first electric path through which a voltage is applied from a battery to glow plugs during the preheating period and a second electric path which is connected to the first electric path in parallel and through which a voltage is applied from the battery to the glow plugs during the after glow period. In the second electric path, a voltage dropping circuit of a switching type is provided. The voltage dropping circuit is provided with a switching means between the battery and the glow plugs and a switching control circuit which controls the opening and closing period of the switching means. The switching control circuit is provided with a set voltage generating circuit and a comparator which compares the output voltage of the voltage dropping circuit with the set voltage generated by the set voltage generating circuit and controls the opening and closing period of the switching means so as to keep the voltage to be applied to the glow plugs nearly equal to the set voltage. The set voltage generating circuit can be provided with a means for selecting a set voltage in accordance with the engine temperature.

A prosody information generating method selecting means 83 selects either a first method or a second method as a prosody information generating method based on the density information, the first method involving generating the prosody information using a statistical technique, the second method involving generating the prosody information using rules based on heuristics.

    • A speech synthesis device is provided with: a central segment selection unit for selecting a central segment from among a plurality of speech segments; a prosody generation unit for generating prosody information based on the central segment; a non-central segment selection unit for selecting a non-central segment, which is a segment outside of a central segment section, based on the central segment and the prosody information; and a waveform generation unit for generating a synthesized speech waveform based on the prosody information, the central segment, and the non-central segment. The speech synthesis device first selects a central segment that forms a basis for prosody generation and generates prosody information based on the central segment so that it is possible to sufficiently reduce both concatenation distortion and sound quality degradation accompanying prosody control in the section of the central segment.

    • An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, a rotary-type developing device and a development control device. The developing device includes a rotation holding member and plural developing units mounted on the rotation holding member. The rotation holding member is configured to stop rotating so that any of the developing units stops in a developing position. The development control device includes a receiving unit, a first determination unit, a first drive control unit and a second drive control unit. The receiving unit receives an image formation instruction relating to a series of image formation processes. The first determination unit determines as to whether or not the series of image formation processes are completed. When the first determination unit makes the determination, the second derive control unit returns the developing unit, which is finally located in the developing position in the image formation processes, to an initial waiting position.
