    • An optical pickup includes a radiating plate made to abut against a rear surface of a laser diode by positioning an engaging hole provided penetratingly in a central portion of the radiating plate concentrically with the laser diode. Slits are formed in the radiating plate to form a pair of tongues in the manner of point symmetry about an axis of the engaging hole. Screw insertion portions formed in the respective tongues are communicates with the slits. As screws are passed through the screw inserting portions and are screwed in, the radiating plate is secured to the base. When the screws are screwed in, the axis is positioned on a phantom line connecting points of application of force generated at proximal end portions of the tongues. Distances from the axis to the respective points of application of force are set to be substantially identical.

    • An optical pickup has a pair of left and right leg portions formed integrally at both side edge portions of a rear end portion of a resilient plate. The leg portions extend forwardly along a horizontal longitudinal direction. A pair of fixing holes are penetratingly provided in the respective leg portions on a transverse phantom line passing through a central portion of the resilient plate and extending in a horizontal transverse direction and at positions spaced apart an equal interval from a longitudinal phantom line passing through the central portion of the resilient plate and extending in the horizontal longitudinal direction. A pair of fixing screws are screwed into a pair of threaded holes in a mounting surface of a base through the fixing holes, thereby fixing the leg portions to the mounting surface.

A flange-like holding portion 6A which is integral with the lower part of this screw 6 is fitted to the opposite opening edge 1b, and the bottom surface edge 6b partially abuts against the chassis 1 top surface and the edge 6b laterally moves by sliding along the top surface when the pickup 5 laterally moves. The edge 6b slides along the top surface near the edge 1b when the pickup 5 laterally moves.

The chuck arm 17 holds the chuck disk 11 rotatably. The first and the second engaging faces 13b and 25c restrict the engaging parts 25a of the claws 25 from deflecting in a direction away from the magnet.

S is an area of an entrance pupil of the objective lens, f is an optical distance from an emission portion of the semiconductor laser to the collimating lens, s is an effective receiving area of the front monitor, and L is an optical distance from the emission portion of the semiconductor laser to the front monitor.
