摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus, a system, and a method for treating meibomian gland dysfunction.SOLUTION: Heat is applied to an eyelid of a patient or an outside of the eyelid so that heat is applied to the meibomian gland 10 of the patient. Application of heat will assist in expressing obstructions 22, 24 or occlusions 22, 24 in the meibomian gland to restore a sufficient flow of sebum to the lipid layer, treating a dry eye condition. In addition, force can be applied to the eyelid of the patient or the outside of the eyelid of the patient in order to improve conductive heat transfer, and thereby reduce blood flow in the tissue causing conductive heat loss. Therefore, application of force reduces the time for further raising a temperature level and/or for attaining a desired temperature level to remove obstructions. Attainment of a higher temperature level may assist in reducing patient discomfort during treatment because it improves melting, loosening, or softening of obstructions in the meibomian gland while reaching the desired temperature level in a shorter time.
