    • A printer is capable of preventing the formation of creases in a portion of an ink ribbon corresponding to a print head and of printing characters and images in good print quality without forming streaks attributable to creases in the ink ribbon. A main frame supports a feed spool and a takeup spool so that an ink ribbon extends between the feed spool and the takeup spool. A print head support frame supporting a print head and an ink ribbon guide is supported pivotally at one end thereof on the main frame. When the print head support frame is locked in place on the main frame, the ink ribbon guide depresses the ink ribbon so that the tension of a portion of the ink ribbon on one side of the main frame is higher than that of a portion of the same on the other side of the main frame while the printer is in an unoperational state and tension is distributed uniformly across a portion of the ink ribbon corresponding to the print head while the printer is in an operational state. Thus, creases are not formed in the ink ribbon while the printer is in the operational state.

    • A thermal transfer printing mechanism for use in a facsimile device includes a separating guide surface that is formed having a curve having a radius of curvature of not more than 1.2 mm. Consequently, the acceleration in a separating direction of an ink film separated from an image receiving sheet by the separating guide surface is increased, and the ink film is smoothly separated from the image receiving sheet. The separating guide surface may be formed as a bent thin plate, an embossed portion, a deformed edge of a supporting member, a plastic attachment, or a plastic tape. The separating guide surface is formed as a curve continuing from a feeding guide surface, and the feeding guide surface bends the sheet and the ink ribbon from a plane connecting a contact line of a thermal head and the ink ribbon and a contact line of the sheet and a sheet guide member provided downstream of the separating guide surface.

    • A liquid supply unit includes a main tank, a sub-tank, a pressure supply mechanism, an air communication hole, an air-permeable film and an excess pressure dispersion unit. The main tank stores liquid. The sub-tank is provided in a jet device, which ejects liquid droplets, and connected to the main tank. The pressure supply mechanism applies predetermined pressured to liquid in the main tank for supplying the liquid to the sub-tank. The air communication hole is provided on an upper surface of the sub-tank and communicates inside of the sub-tank with atmospheric air. The air-permeable film is provided for closing the air communication hole. The air-permeable film passes air, but not liquid. The excess pressure dispersion unit disperses excess pressure from the liquid supply unit when the liquid in the sub-tank becomes in contact with the air-permeable film and the pressure inside the sub-tank becomes higher than the predetermined pressure.

    • An air removal device for ink supply mechanism is provided which ensures separation of ink from an air permeable membrane after removal of air is completed. The air removal device includes an ink chamber, an air discharge passage, an air permeable membrane, a pump, and a movable member. The movable member is designed to be displaced between a first position and a second position. When the movable member is displaced to the second position to operate the pump, air collected in the ink chamber is discharged to the air discharge passage. When the pump is stopped and the movable member is displaced to the first position, one or both of air left in a portion of space in the ink chamber and air present downstream in an air discharge direction of the air permeable membrane flows in between the air permeable membrane and the ink inside the ink chamber.
