摘要： According to one embodiment, a three-dimensional image display apparatus includes a display unit and a generating unit. The display unit includes a two-dimensional image display device includes a display surface with a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix, and a plurality of light ray control elements provided on the display surface of the two-dimensional image display device corresponding to the pixels. The generating unit generates an optimal elemental image by determining a value of at least one pixel from a weighted sum of values of at least two pixels of a generated image or an input image, and weights calculated based on light ray distributions indicating directions and scattering degrees of light rays from the light ray control elements. The display unit displays the optimal elemental image.

The correlation calculation unit calculates correlations between a first region and predetermined first basis vectors. The feature quantity calculation unit calculates a feature quantity based on the correlations. The weight calculation unit calculates weights based on the distances and the feature quantity. The pixel value calculation unit calculates a weighted average of pixel values according to the weights to generate an output pixel value.

The image data acquisition unit acquires pixel data of first image data of an erect image obtained by a line sensor comprising a plurality of light receiving elements. The erect image is formed by a plurality of gradient index lenses of a lens array. The filter setting unit sets sharpening filter coefficients of a filter to be applied to the pixel data of the first image data corresponding to the respective light receiving elements, according to remainder values obtained respectively by dividing positions of the light receiving elements on the line sensor by an interval of a lens arrangement of the lens array. The filtering processor generates second image data sharpened by applying the obtained sharpening filter coefficients to the respective pixel data of the first image data.
