摘要： A device for encoding a component color image data having plural, diverse kinds of component data has plural kinds of encoding units including plural kinds of encoding memory tables which correspond to the respective component data and have diverse encoding characteristics. Each encoding unit has component data input thereto in a picture element amount which is encoded by use of one kind of encoding memory table among the plurality of kinds of memory tables and is output. The encoding units are controlled by an encoding controller which selects the encoding memory table for use in accordance with at least one kind of component data corresponding to the input picture element and component data corresponding to picture elements surrounding the input picture element.

摘要： An adaptive type differential encoding method and a device for differentially encoding a color image signal consisting of a plurality of component signals are arranged: To form sample signals for the component signals by sampling the color image signal for every component signal thereof; to form differential signals for the component signals by using the sample signals; to set an allowable quantization error at least for one of the plurality of component signals; to set quantizing characteristics for the differential signals according to the size of the allowable quantization error; and to quantize and encode the differential signals on the basis of the set quantizing characteristics. The arrangement takes the visual perception characteristic of man and enables a differential encoding process to be efficiently accomplished on the color image signal without causing any conspicuous signal deterioration.

The apparatus forms first prediction data, receives the image data and forms and outputs first differential data which is equal to the difference between the received image data and the first prediction data. Second predication data is formed and output, and a second differential data which is equal to the difference between the first prediction data and the second prediction data.

摘要： An external program supplied from an external unit in order to process an image sensed by a camera is prevented from causing a malfunction in the camera. An external program supplied by an personal computer is stored in an EEPROM of the camera. The external program contains version information giving the version of the camera that is capable of using the external program, the name of the program for control, and parameter information corresponding to the program name. A CPU compares each of these items of information with corresponding information that has been set in the camera, thereby determining whether the external program is capable of being used. If the external program cannot be used by the camera, a warning display is presented on a display unit.
