    • A coding apparatus includes: a wavelet transform section which transforms image data into coefficient data for every sub-band; a code blocking section which divides a region of the sub-band of the coefficient data generated by the wavelet transform section into code blocks; a state transition section which transits a state of the coefficient data which is a process target according to the value and state of surrounding binary coefficient data adjacent to the coefficient data which is the process target; a selection section which selects a coding pass according to the state of the coefficient data transited by the state transition section; and a coding section which codes the coefficient data for every code block generated by the code blocking section according to the coding pass selected by the selection section.

    • A die is produced based on die model data. The produced die is corrected. The corrected die is three-dimensionally measured by a measuring tool to produce measured three-dimensional die data. A polygonal surface represented by the measured three-dimensional die data and a model surface represented by the die model data are compared with each other. The polygonal surface is brought into proximity to the model surface, and the absolute values of the distances between a plurality of pairs of measuring points on the polygonal surface and corresponding points on the model surface are calculated. The die model data are corrected based on the absolute values of the distances.

    • A pickup apparatus for independently detecting the vibrations of each of a plurality of strings, and an electronic stringed instrument utilizing the pickup apparatus. The pickup apparatus minimizes the crosstalk effects between the different pickups by positioning the pickups such that the magnetic force lines of each pickup is not parallel to or not in close proximity of the magnetic force lines of adjacent pickups. In one example, each pickup in the pickup apparatus is disposed at an angle with respect to the string and with respect to adjacent pickups. In another example, each pickup is disposed at an offset along the length direction of the strings relative to adjacent pickups. In yet another example, each pickup is disposed both at an angle and at an offset relative to adjacent pickups.
