    • An optical device includes a recording medium for recording and reproducing information by light beam, a generator of writing and reproducing light beam, a floating member provided at least one floating shoe which produces high air pressure at that surface thereof which faces to the recording medium at an extremely small distance thereof, an optical lens mounted upon the floating member for focusing the light beam upon the surface of the recording medium, a detector of the floating height of the floating member above the recording medium, and optical system controller for controlling in response to the output from the floating height detector in such a way that the point at which the light beam is focused by the optical lens is within a predetermined range relative to the surface of the recording medium.

    • There is provided a recording apparatus including a holder member upon which an image is formed by scanning a modulated beam, a transfer device for transferring the formed image to a continuous transfer material, a transfer material transporting device for loading the continuous transfer paper and a feeding device for feeding the transfer material. The transfer material transporting device includes a set of members which open to accommodate the transfer material, a holder for retaining the transfer material, an endless rotary member which moves the holder through the open members and a control for controlling the opening and closing of the members. The feeding device includes an index and a transporting mechanism for moving the continuous transfer material a distance corresponding to the distance between the index and transfer device. The feeding device also includes another transport mechanism, both transport mechanisms beginning and stopping at different times. The recording apparatus is also provided with a potential measuring head located along the scanning path but not beyond the print end region on the holder member.

    • A pattern is formed by applying a coating composition containing magnetic particles to an article so that a coating film is formed, and a plurality of sheet form magnets are placed along the front surface of this coating film. Adjacent sheet form magnets are arranged in such a state that the magnetic poles on the front surface and the magnetic poles on the back surface are different between adjacent sheet form magnets, and side surfaces of the sheet form magnets contact each other. The coating composition contains a thermoplastic resin, magnetic particles with flaky form and a specific low boiling point solvent and a specific high boiling point solvent. A magnetic field is applied to the coating film by the sheet form magnets, so that the magnetic particles in the coating film are oriented by the magnetic field and the magnetic particles are oriented substantially parallel to the front surface of the coating film above the contact portions between the sheet form magnets. Light is reflected from the magnetic particles in the coating film so that a pattern is formed.
