The swing member is supported by the shaft so that the member is swingable between first and second positions. A spool is rotatably fitted on the shaft. A spring is strung between the long restriction arm of the swing member in a direction opposite a pin implanted in the body, and urges the member to put the arm in the second position, to restrict the swinging of the swing member. An intermediate gear is rotatably fitted on a shaft secured to the other arm of the swing member, and is always engaged with a drive gear provided on the spool. A drag gear is provided near the intermediate gear so that the latter can be engaged with the former when the swing member is in the second position. A swing member can be prevented from moving at the time of fishline casting operation or the like so as to cause the intermediate gear to collide against the drag gear.

A handle shaft (6) is disposed in the rear of the spool shaft (4) on the opposite side to a fishline play-out direction. Between the left and right side frames (1, 1'), a level wind device (B) is disposed in front of the spool (11) on the fishline play-out direction side.

摘要： A handle of a fishing reel in which, even if a fishline is twined around a handle knob, the fishline can be removed easily there from. The handle knob also can be held easily outside thereof with the fingertips. In the handle of the fishing reel, a handle knob is rotatably mounted on the end portion of a handle arm. The shape of each of the hold surfaces of the handle knob to be held with the thumb and forefinger during a fishline winding operation is formed such that it is tapered from the base portion side of the handle arm toward the outer end portion side thereof. Accordingly, when the fishline is twined around the handle knob, the fishline can be removed from the twined state thereof. Also, the handle knob can be grasped easily from a position outward of the knob with the angler's fingertips.
