    • A manufacturing method is provided for a liquid crystal display device that can avoid any possible inconvenience as a result of a difficulty in controlling the dropping amount of a liquid crystal. For executing the method, the liquid crystal display device has a pair of substrates disposed in an opposed manner including a liquid crystal display area with a diagonal length in a range from 1 inch to 5 inches, and a plurality of column spacers is formed in the liquid crystal display area of at least one of the substrates. The method includes the steps of: forming a sealant, with a width in a range from 0.4 mm to 1.0 mm, around the liquid crystal display area of the substrate formed with the column spacers; dropping a liquid crystal into the area enclosed by the sealant on the substrate such that a surface of the liquid crystal has a height lower than a height of the column spacers; disposing the other substrate to be opposed to the substrate formed with the column spacers, and pushing the resulting pair of substrates in a direction bringing the substrates closer to each other; and curing the sealant in a state that the column spacers each have the height in a percentage range from 108% to 113% as a result of dividing the height without the pushing by the height with the pushing.

There is provided a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal display panel having: a first substrate; a second substrate; a sealing material through which the first substrate and the second substrate are stuck together; and a liquid crystal enclosed inside a liquid crystal enclosure area encircled by the first substrate, the second substrate, and the sealing material, wherein the sealing material includes a ring portion in a ring shape which configures the liquid crystal enclosure area and whose whole circumference is closed, and a first extension portion and a second extension portion, each of which is integrally connected to the ring portion and is arranged outside the ring portion, the first extension portion extends up to a cut-end portion of a first side of the liquid crystal display panel, the second extension portion extends up to a cut-end portion of a second side of the liquid crystal display panel, the second side being opposed to the first side, and in a state where the first substrate and the second substrate are stuck together, W2≦W1≦1.2W2 is satisfied where W1 represents a seal width of the first extension portion and a seal width of the second extension portion, and W2 represents a seal width of the ring portion.

In further aspects, the sealing material may include individual sealing materials which are formed on regions of the respective liquid crystal cells, an outer peripheral sealing material which surrounds the respective individual sealing materials and forms an opening at least in a portion thereof, and a weir sealing material of a pattern in which the weir sealing material is formed inside the outer peripheral sealing material and in the vicinity of the opening.

According to the present invention, an overlapping width of a frame-like sealing material and a black matrix on a peripheral portion along a display region is suppressed to 0.2 mm or less, or a region of the black matrix which is overlapped to the frame-like sealing member is patterned to include a light transmitting portion.
