    • An air bag, formed by sewing two basic fabrics at a sewing portion, is accommodated within a module case in a state in which the air bag has been fixed to a holder of an inflater at rear-side base portions and folded up into a bellows-like shape at a front-side foldable portions. The base portion of the left basic fabric, which is remote from a center pillar and a front door of a vehicle, has a section between two points b and c, which defines a surplus section. When the foldable portions of the air bag are expanded, the foldable portions can be moved toward an inner surface of a side of the vehicle body by the surplus section b and c and hence, the air bag can be deployed obliquely forwardly to reliably penetrate into a space between the center pillar, as well as the front door, and an occupant.

    • A side impact air bag apparatus located in a seat back of a vehicle for directly initiating an air bag longitudinally before completely inflating the bag in the width direction. The side impact air bag has a casing with an interior, a support for an inflator and a bag enclosing the inflator. The bag is capable of direct inflation longitudinally before completely inflating in the width direction. The bag is arranged inside the casing to have, a forward middle portion associated with the inflator, a right base cloth portion extending from the right of the forward middle portion and having first angled bellow folds of cloth, a left base cloth portion extending from the left of the forward middle portion and having second angled bellow folds of cloth, and an interior gas flow passage extending between the forward middle portion and the inflator, such that gas generated by the inflator easily reaches the forward middle portion through the interior gas flow passage and pushes the forward middle portion out in a longitudinal direction before the first bellow folds and the second bellow folds are inflated.

    • A module case having an air bag module accommodated therein is disposed in a side face of a seat back, so that a lid of the module case is opened by a pressure of an air bag expanded upon a side collision of a vehicle, and the air bag is deployed through the resulting opening, termed the “primary” opening into a vehicle compartment. As a result of a tear line provided in the module case, even if the lid is held down by the door which has been deformed by a shock resulting from the collision, so that the lid cannot be opened to provide the primary opening, the tear line in a case body of the module case is broken, whereby a front wall is pivoted forwardly to form an alternate or “secondary” opening from the module case. Therefore, the air bag can be deployed without hindrance through the alternate secondary opening defined in the front wall of the module case into the vehicle compartment.

    • Provided is a head gimbal assembly (HGA) in which the electrodes for a thermally-assisted magnetic recording head comprising a light source, a photodetector and a magnetic head element, can be reliably electrically connected to wiring members by solder ball bonding (SBB). The HGA comprises a suspension comprising: a base; a first wiring member for the light source and the photodetector, provided on a side of one surface of the base; and a second wiring member for the magnetic head element, provided on the same surface side. The first and second wiring members protrude from the base toward the head to be fixed. As a result, the end portions (connection pads) of the first and second wiring members can be located close to electrodes for light-source and photodetector and electrodes for magnetic head element, respectively. This arrangement enables the end portions of the first and second wiring members to be reliably electrically connected to the electrodes by SBB.
