    • An endoscope for image pickup of an object by receiving image light with an image sensor includes an elongated tube. A fiber optic image guide includes a plurality of optical fibers being bundled, and has a distal tip, is inserted through the elongated tube, for transmitting the image light focused on the distal tip by an objective lens system in a proximal direction. A piezoelectric actuator is disposed on an outer side of the fiber optic image guide, for periodically displacing the distal tip, wherein the image sensor picks up the image light from the fiber optic image guide for plural times in synchronism with displacement, to form one synthesized image. A hood device is mounted on a head assembly of the elongated tube, and shiftable between a closed position for covering a distal end face of the head assembly and an open position for revealing the distal end face.

    • A first irradiation portion that radiates white light onto a subject, a second irradiation portion that radiates narrow bandwidth light having a narrower wavelength bandwidth than the white light, and an observation window used to observe the subject are respectively disposed on a leading end surface of an endoscope insertion portion. Each of the first and second irradiation portions includes a pair of irradiation windows for emitting light therefrom. A straight line passing through a center point of the observation window and bisecting the leading end surface is defined as a boundary line. The pair of irradiation windows of the first irradiation portion are disposed on both sides of the boundary line. The pair of irradiation windows of the second irradiation portion are disposed on the both sides of the boundary line. Spectra of lights radiated from the irradiation windows of the second irradiation portion can be changed individually.

    • In a search mode of an electronic endoscope system, ordinary light images and special light images are captured from a body cavity respectively under white light and special light. Simultaneously, biological information on the body cavity is acquired from image signals obtained under the special light. The ordinary and special light images are associated with the acquired biological information and stored in an image accumulator. By pressing a lock-on switch while confining a target in an area designating frame on an ordinary image on a monitor, the target is designated and biological information on the target is determined. Thereafter, biological information associated with the latest image in the image accumulator is compared with the biological information on the search target. If the latest image contains an area having the same biological information as the search target, the area designating frame is displayed on that area on the monitor.

    • An electronic endoscope includes an illumination unit, an imaging unit and an image generating unit. The illumination unit switches among plural light beams having different spectra so as to illuminate a subject. The light beams include white light and excitation light for exciting the subject to produce fluorescence. The imaging unit includes a solid-state imaging device, and an objective optical system. The objective optical system guides, to the solid-state imaging device, light returning from the subject which the illumination unit illuminates. The image generating unit generates image data based on image signals output from the imaging unit. The solid-state imaging device further includes a sensitivity adjusting unit that only lowers sensitivity, to the excitation light, of pixels which are sensitive to the fluorescence among a plurality of pixels of the solid-state imaging device. The light guided by the objective optical system is incident directly onto the solid-state imaging device.

    • An endoscope cleaner includes a cleaning chamber for containing an endoscope. A vibration plate is disposed in a lower portion of the cleaning chamber. A basket portion is disposed substantially at a center of the vibration plate, for containing small parts removed from the endoscope. A nozzle opening supplies cleaning fluid into the cleaning chamber through the basket portion. Plural ultrasonic vibrators include at least one disposed under the basket portion, for vibrating the vibration plate. Furthermore, a drain port drains the cleaning fluid. A circulation line circulates the cleaning fluid from the cleaning chamber by use of the nozzle opening and the drain port. A disinfectant nozzle ejects disinfectant to disinfect the endoscope and the small parts. The basket portion has an upwards open shape, and prevents the small parts from scattering in vibration. The small parts are plural button parts or cap parts.
