    • A tire cord having core filaments (10) performed into a helical configuration while maintaining the core filaments (10) in a parallel, side-by-side relationship. The core filaments (10) are not twisted or stranded together. High tensile strength sheath filaments (11) are also performed into a flattened helical configuration so that the sheath filaments (11) can be wrapped around the side-by-side core filaments such that the sheath filaments (11) do not put such tension on the core filaments (10) as to cause the core filaments (10) to bunch. The core filaments (10) are maintained in a flat side-by-side configuration so that no voids are formed and rubber can penetrate into the tire cord. The core filaments (10) may number from three to six and the sheath filaments (11) from one to seven. The cross-section of the tire cord is flattened and confined within an oval-shaped outer bound (21), the oval outer bound (21) being characterized by a major axis and a minor axis. It is desirable that the minor axis be no greater than 60% of the major axis to create the appropriate difference in the bending modulus of the tire cord in the horizontal versus the vertical direction.

    • Commonly, a transient protection filter circuit is integrated between power sources and the circuits that follow to suppress voltage transients. Pre-existing transient protection filters are implemented such that when a transient is detected, transistors in the path become linear regulators. Instead, this invention uses bridge resistors to form a voltage divider to dissipate the extra power. The novelty of this invention is that it protects the load not by dissipating the extra power in front of the load as other transient protection filter circuits do, but by providing energy from the transient to the load through a resistor. This implementation solves the problem of thermal runaway that is commonly caused when transient voltages are filtered by dissipating power within the transistors in the path of the transient and the electric circuits after the transistors.

    • One aspect of the invention provides an ingress apparatus comprising a signal processing apparatus for receiving an incoming data frame and locating the position of path overhead, and a monitoring apparatus arranged to extract information from the located path overhead. The ingress apparatus further includes an insertion apparatus for receiving, from the monitoring apparatus, information extracted from the path overhead of one or more signal path, and being further arranged to insert the extracted information into a respective data frame component which occupies a fixed position in a data frame. Thus, information which would normally occupy a non-fixed position in a data frame is moved to a fixed position. As a result, the information can subsequently be accessed without having to employ relatively complex apparatus for locating information which occupies a non-fixed position.
