    • An object of the present invention is to provide a coordinates input apparatus whereby various operations on a screen can be carried out where practicable with one finger, and the number of operations reduced, thus giving a marked improvement in user operability. The coordinates input apparatus of the invention therefore comprises a detection section and an operating section. The detection section is provided with an operating surface for operation by a coordinates pointer such as a finger, and detects the operating conditions on the operating surface caused by the coordinates pointer. The operating section executes screen operations corresponding to the operating condition detected by the detection section, and in addition detects tapping of the coordinates pointer on the operating surface within a predetermined region, and carries out previously determined processing.

    • A coordinate input device includes a coordinate input unit which performs a coordinate input operation by sliding an operating member on an operation surface which is formed in a convex shape, a concave shape, or the shape of a polyhedron. More specifically, the coordinate input device includes a capacitive sensor substrate formed by laminating two electrode layers with an upper substrate (dielectric layer) therebetween, each electrode layer including a plurality of electrodes arranged in a striped pattern. In addition, the coordinate input device also includes the operation surface formed in a convex (or concave) shape which is used for performing a coordinate input operation by sliding the operating member thereon.

    • An input apparatus includes a surface plate, an electrostatic capacitive sensor disposed under the surface plate, and a strain sensor disposed between the electrostatic capacitive sensor and the surface plate and fixed to the back surface of the surface plate. As a first input operation, when a finger is moved on an operation area of the surface plate, the movement position can be detected by the electrostatic capacitive sensor. As a second input operation, when the operation area is pressed down, the pressing force can be detected by the strain sensor. A series of the first input operation and the second input operation can be performed without leaving the finger from the operation area. Therefore, the input operation can be simply performed.

    • An input device is provided. The input device includes a first position detection unit having a detection section which detects the absolute position of a predetermined operation tool in a predetermined region. A second position detection unit has a detection section, which detects contact or approach of the operation tool.
