    • A traveling flats assembly of a carding machine includes first and second end sprockets; an endless belt supported by the first and second end sprockets; a plurality of flat bars arranged in a series along the belt; a coupling arrangement for connecting the flat bars to the belt for being carried by the lower belt flight through a working zone in which the flat bars cooperate with the main carding cylinder of the carding machine and for being carried by the upper belt flight through a return zone; a supporting component having an arcuate supporting surface; a first concave slide guide extending parallel to one part of a circumference of the first end sprocket for guiding and holding the flat bars as they travel about the first end sprocket; a second concave slide guide extending parallel to one part of a circumference of the second end sprocket for guiding and holding the flat bars as they travel about the second end sprocket; and a convex slide guide extending through the work zone and lying on the supporting surface of the supporting component. The convex slide guide has an upper surface on which the flat bars glide. The convex slide guide is longitudinally shiftable relative to the supporting component. The first and second concave slide guides and the convex slide guide are mutually separate components and the convex slide guide has opposite first and second terminal portions passing through respective first and second concave slide guides.

    • The carding machine, with revolving flats and carding-flat bars with clothing, has a sliding guide surface (20) for the ends of the carding-flat bars where the flats are moved by a continuous drive belt. The convex zone of the sliding guide (20) can be shifted (A,B) on the underlay surface (17) in the peripheral direction. The ends of the convex zone (20) have an interlocking fit with the ends of the concave deflection zone. The concave zone of the sliding guide (20) has a wedge shape, where the sliding (20b) and underlay (17a) surfaces are wedge shaped against each other. The underlay surface has a groove to take part of the sliding guide. The sliding guide (20) is of a plastics material which is pliable, wear-resistant and has a low friction rating. The lower angled base surface (20b) of the sliding guide (20) works together with a chamfered underlay surface (17a). The deflection zone is fixed, and its ends are outside the working area of the carding-flat bars (14,14a,14b). The ends of the deflection zone are at the side members of a U-shaped carrier, which is mounted to the machine frame with a penetration outside the working area of the carding-flat bars (14,14a,14b). The U-shaped carrier has two flat side walls, and a flat base, with an extension at each side wall. The sliding guide (20) extends over the end surfaces of the U-shaped carrier, which support the guide (20) with its sliding surface (20a) on the base of the carrier. The sliding surface (20a) of the guide (20) extends at least partially over the side walls of the carrier. The sliding guide (20) is under the concave deflector, with the ends of the guide overlapping with the ends of the deflector, with the guide ends on the deflector ends. The end of the sliding guide is tensed against the end of the deflection zone, through a spring. The sliding guide (20) can be shifted by about 100 mm. Its shift (a) in the radial direction (r1) is 0.01-0.03 mm. An additional sliding guide is over the surface of the sliding guide (20), which can be shifted to move its sliding surface of the wedge structure by 0.2-4.0 mm in a radial direction. The carding-flat bars (14,14a,14b) are taken over the carrier and deflector by the sliding guide (20).
