    • A closure element holding assembly 10, e.g. a stay for a window or a vehicle sunroof, comprises a linkage 16 with first and second connecting ends 24,26 and at least first and second link elements 18, 20. The first connecting end 24 is connected to a closure element 14, e.g. a window, and the second connecting end 26 is connected to a frame 12. The first and second link elements are joined to each other for pivotal movement about a first axis 36 and in such a manner that they can be connected to and disconnected from each other. Disconnection of the link elements is facilitated by relatively repositioning at least part of the first link element 18 generally parallel to the first axis 36 relative to the second link element 20. Preferably, the releasable connection between the first and second elements comprises a post 94 formed on one of the elements, and a socket 98 formed on the other of the elements. The post and socket are engaged/separated when the first and second elements take-up specified rotational positions. Preferably the post is formed on a leg 72,74 of one of the link elements and the socket is formed on a leg 40,42 of the other of the link elements. A third link 22 may be provided which when used with a detent mechanism 120, allows the closure assembly 10 to adopt different opening positions.
