    • PURPOSE:To maintain an air fuel ratio at an objective air fuel ratio even if the air fuel ratio is controlled by providing an auxiliary oxygen-concentration sensor whose electric resistance value is not subjected to the effect of temperature in comparison with a main oxygen-concentration sensor in the exhaust path of an engine. CONSTITUTION:A main oxygen-concentration sensor 16 has an oxygen-concentration sensor element 25 comprising an N-type semiconductor and an electric heater 26 which is arranged at the neighborhood of the element 25 and heats the element 25. The output voltage of the element 25 is inputted into an input port 35 through an AD converter 41. The amount of fuel injection through a fuel injection valve is controlled so that an air fuel ratio becomes an objective air fuel ratio based on the output signal of the element 25. Meanwhile, an auxiliary oxygen-concentration sensor 19 comprises zirconia, and a heater is not provided. The output voltage of the sensor 19 is inputted into the port 35 through an AD converter 42. When the air fuel ratio is on the lean side, the objective synthetic resistance value is decreased based on the output signal of the sensor 19, and the temperature of the sensor 16 is decreased. The air fuel ratio is corrected in the rich direction. Meanwhile, when the air fuel ratio is on the rich side, the air fuel ratio is corrected to the lean direction.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the temperature of a sensor element from overshooting after starting energizing an electric heater and to make it possible to keep the temperature of the sensor element at a specified temperature as fast as possible by providing a target resistance value setting means, a temperature detecting means and an initial target resistance value deciding means. CONSTITUTION:A heater controller is provided with the electric heater A for adjusting the temperature of the sensor element and the electric resistance value of the heater A is detected by a supply power control means B, then power supplied to the heater A is controlled so that the detected resistance value may be a specified target resistance value. Then, the target resistance value setting means C sets the target resistance value as an initial target resistance value which is smaller than in an ordinary time in a specified period after starting energizing the heater A. The temperature detecting means D detects the temperature of the sensor element or the temperature which is representative thereof and the initial target resistance value deciding means E decides the initial target resistance value in accordance with the temperature detected by the temperature detecting means D.

    • PURPOSE:To maintain the temp. of a sensor element at a specified value even if a change arises in the parasitic resistance value of an electric heater according to the operating condition of a vehicle by providing a supply electric power control means, operating condition detecting means and electric power decrease suppressing means. CONSTITUTION:The controller has an electric heater A for regulating the element temp. The electric resistance value of this heater A is detected and the supply electric power to the heater A is so controlled by the supply electric power control means B that this value attains the prescribed target resistance value. Further, the vehicle operating condition detecting means C which detects the operating condition of the vehicle and the electric power decrease suppressing means D which suppresses the decrease of the electric power to be supplied to the heater A over a prescribed period after the high load operation according to the operating condition of the vehicle detected by the detecting means C are provided. The decrease of the electric power to be supplied to the heater A is suppressed over the prescribed period of time in this way after the high load operation and, therefore, the parasitic resistance value of the electric heater is increased and the temp. in the heat generating part of the heater A is maintained at the prescribed value, by which the temp. of the sensor element is maintained at the specified value.

    • PURPOSE:To enable it to cope with temperature abnormality in an oxygen sensor and anything unusual in an oxygen sensor output value due to desired resistance value abnormality by judging it to be something wrong in the desired resistance value when such a state that heater supplied power has come out of the specified range is continued as long as the specified period. CONSTITUTION:A control means M4 controls the supplied power of a heater M5 so as to make a heater resistance value of this heater M5 for temperature control of an oxygen sensor M1 come to the desired resistance value. A desired value renewal means M6 renews the desired resistance value so as to make the supplied power for the heater M5 at time of the specified driving state of an internal combustion engine M2 come to the specified standard power. A power supply judging means M7 judges whether the power supply for the heater M5 is within the specified range or not, while a desired resistance value abnormal judging means M8 judges something wrong in the desired resistance value when such a state that power supply to the heater M5 is out of the specified range is continued as long as the specified period. Consequently, it is judged as abnormality in the desired resistance value when the desired resistance value largely differs from the request value because of replacement of the oxygen sensor M1 or battery change or the like.

    • PURPOSE:To adequately control the energization of a heater while monitoring the energizing current of the heater by making effective utilization of the resistance/temp. characteristics of the heater of the oxygen concn. sensor used for controlling the air-fuel ratio of an engine, etc. CONSTITUTION:The heater 13 of the oxygen concn. sensor is connected at one end to the positive side terminal of a battery B via the ignition switch IG of a vehicle and is connected at the other end to the collector of a transistor (TR) 20. The heater 13 is imparted with the direct current from the battery B only under the conduction of the TR 20 while the switch IG is held closed, thereby heating a titania element. A detecting resistor 30 receives the energizing current of the heater 13 and outputs the same as a terminal voltage. A micro computer 60 takes this voltage therein and intermittently supplies the energizing current at every prescribed time regardless of the active state of the oxygen concn. sensor when the energizing current is larger than a prescribed current value. The microcomputer controls the supply of the energizing current in such a manner that the oxygen concn. sensor maintains the active state when the energizing current is smaller than the prescribed current value.
