摘要： PURPOSE:To improve use efficiency of a catalyst by forming a coating layer for carrying a catalyst on the surface of a ceramic foam carrier having a three dimensional net structure frame, wherein said coating layer is thick in an upper stream part of an exhaust gas and thin in a down stream part of the gas. CONSTITUTION:A slurry for making a coating layer for carrying a catalyst for exhaust gas purification is prepd. and adjusted to 10-250cps viscosity and a ceramic foam carrier having a three dimensional net structure frame 1 is immersed in the slurry. The ceramic foam carrier is pulled out, excessive slurry on the carrier is blown away, and after the carrier is held quietly, the slurry deposited on the frame 1 of the ceramic foam carrier is heated. As a result, the obtained coating layer 2 is thick in an upper stream part 2A of an exhaust gas and thin in a down stream part 2B of the gas. In the part 2A, a large amount of a catalyst is carried and the purification ability is improved.

The structure is preferably used as a material for collecting harmful components of exhaust gas discharged from internal combustion engines.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the title tough cellular body, useful as a catalyst carrier, filter, etc., and having a large effective volume without requiring a cushioning material, by forming a specific skin layer on the prescribed outer peripheral part of the cellular ceramic body having a three-dimensional network structure. CONSTITUTION:A binder, such as PVA or methyl cellulose, in an amount of 5-10wt.%, 2-3wt.% surfactant, dispersant, etc., and 50-100wt.% water are added to, e.g., a mixed powder containing MgO, Al2O3 and SiO2 for providing a cordierite structure by calcining or synthetic cordierite powder obtained by heating the mixed powder and powdering the resultant cordierite based ceramic. The obtained mixture is stirred and mixed to afford a ceramic slurry, which is then impregnated into a cylindrical polyurethane foam, etc., prepared by removing cellular films and having communicating cells. The excessive slurry is removed by an air gun, etc., to dry the foam. An inorganic nonwoven fabric, such as Al2O3 impregnated with the ceramic slurry is then wrapped around the foam, dried and calcined at 1,300-1,400 deg.C for about 7hr to provide the aimed cellular ceramic body of the three-dimensional network structure having a skin layer consisting of the inorganic fibers having internal communicating spaces on the outer peripheral part.

An Al layer is formed on the layer 2 by hot dip aluminizing and converted into an alumina layer 3 by thermal oxidation treatment. A catalyst supporting coating layer 4 is then formed on the alumina layer 3 to produce a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas. Since the alumina layer 3 has projections 3A, 3B such as whiskers, the geometric surface area is increased. The geometric surface area of the coating layer 4 is also increased and the ability of the catalyst to purify exhaust gas at high temp. is enhanced.

摘要： A porous ceramic body is prepared by dipping an organic foam having a three-dimensional network structure in a ceramic slurry to deposit a sufficient amount of the ceramic on the surface of the foam, moving an excess of the ceramic slurry contained in the foam to the intended peripheral region of the foam by exerting centrifugal force on the foam, thereby causing denser ceramic deposition in the peripheral region than in the other region of the foam, and then drying, solidifying, and baking to burn out and dissipate the foam and simultaneously sinter the ceramics.

Since the corrugated metallic sheet 2 is surely present on the flat metallic sheet 1, welding can be carried out while accurately confirming the bottoms, that is, the tops of the sheet 2.
