    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sense of incongruity of a driver due to extension of starting time while shortening pressure rising time of fuel in starting.
      SOLUTION: An electronic control unit ECU raises pressure of the fuel by a low pressure pump in starting of the cylinder injection type internal combustion engine (steps 100 and 110). When a fuel pressure P inside a delivery pipe reaches a first predetermined value P1 after starting the pressure raising, a high pressure pump raises the fuel pressure (steps 120 and 140). When the fuel pressure P reaches a second predetermined value P2 after starting the pressure raising by the high pressure pump, fuel injection from a fuel injection valve is allowed (steps 160-180). The ECU evaluates progress of the pressure raising by each pump (steps 120, 130, 150 and 160), and when it is evaluated that the pressure raising is slow, injection timing of the fuel from the fuel injection valve is advanced (steps 140 and 190).

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller of an internal combustion engine which prevents shortage and excess of an internal EGR amount when starting the internal engine from a cooling state. SOLUTION: A valve timing of an air intake valve is timed from the most retardant state by a hydraulic drive of a valve timing variable mechanism 25, and a valve overlapping becomes to increase an internal EGR amount. A hydraulic circuit for driving the valve timing variable mechanism 25 is formed so that oil in the part of the mechanism 25 side is distinguished from the oil in the part of the oil pump 32 side. Therefore, the oil in the mechanism 25 side used as working oil of the valve timing mechanism 25 in the hydraulic circuit can be employed for the one to be low volatile at low temperature compared with the oil of the oil pump 32 side used for lubricating oil of an engine.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid a pumping failure of a high pressure pump in an engine start. SOLUTION: Before timing t2 when a crank angle is determined in the start of the cylinder injection type internal combustion engine, an electronic control unit ECU controls duty of energization to a spill valve of the high pressure pump by a cycle comprising very short periods. By the control, the spill valve is opened and closed at minute intervals and a pressure of fuel is raised. After the crank angle is determined, closing start timings of the spill valve are calculated for every predetermined set timings (timings t1 and t5), and the pressure of the fuel is raised by closing the spill valve at the calculated closing start timings (timings t7). After determining the crank angle, the former fuel pressure control is stopped and the spill valve is opened, and switching timing for switching to the latter fuel pressure control is set, for example at timing t4, within a period from right after a start of a delivery stroke of the high pressure pump to the set timing (the timing t5).

      SOLUTION: Pressure of fuel of a fuel tank 10 is raised at a high pressure fuel pump 20 and the fuel is supplied to a delivery pipe 30. The fuel stored in the delivery pipe 30 is suitably injected and supplied to each cylinder of the internal combustion engine 1 via an injector 40. A fuel pressure inside the delivery pipe 30 is measured by a fuel pressure sensor 60, and cooling water temperature of the internal combustion engine 1 is measured by a water temperature sensor 60. Calculation of a fuel injection quantity carried out on the basis of the measured fuel pressure and cooling water temperature is interlocked with fuel injection timing, and measurement of the fuel pressure is carried out each time the calculation of the fuel injection quantity is carried out.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device capable of suppressing unstableness of the fuel combusting condition in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine when exhaust gas exists in the chamber at the time of fuel combustion so as to suppress generation of black smokes. SOLUTION: When the temperature of the combustion chamber 3 is low, the fuel injected into the combustion chamber 3 will not easily atomize and remain in liquid state, and owing to burning sticking of the liquid fuel by the heat of combustion, it is likely that black smokes are generated in the exhaust gas. When the presumed temperature T of the combustion chamber 3 becomes below the value (specified value a2) at which black smokes will be generated, the valve timing of an intake valve 20 is advanced, and the amount of the exhaust gas existing in the chamber 3 at the time of fuel combustion is adjusted incrementally. With this exhaust gas, the temperature of the chamber is heightened to promote atomization of the liquid fuel, and also the combustive temperature is lowered to lead to suppression of the generation of black smokes. The suppression of black smokes as in the described manner is executed only when really necessary such that the presumed temperature T sinks below the specified value a2.
