    • PURPOSE:To improve the steering stability during lane change running at a relatively high speed by controlling to increase the differential limiting force of a differential control clutch controlling the differential between front and rear wheels for a preset time when the car speed is the preset value or above and the steering angle of a steering device is the preset value or above. CONSTITUTION:The drive torque outputted from an automatic transmission 14 is divided into two by a center differential device 20 and transmitted to front wheels 24 via a front wheel differential device 22 and to rear wheels 28 via a rear wheel differential device 26 respectively. The center differential device 20 is provided with a differential control clutch 82 between a differential case 32 functioning as an input member and a front wheel drive shaft 44 functioning as an output member, and the torque distribution action of the center differential device 10 is limited as its differential limiting force is increased. When the differential control clutch 82 is controlled by an electronic controller 86 via a clutch hydraulic control circuit 84, the differential limiting force is increased for a preset time if the car speed is the preset value or above and the steering angle is the preset value or above.

    • PURPOSE:To secure the smooth traveling by reducing the differential movement restricting force for front and rear wheels close to zero when the state in which the possibility of the reduction of the input torque supplied into a transfer and the increase of the traveling resistance due to the application of the differential movement restricting force exists is judged. CONSTITUTION:The title device selects the differential state between front and rear wheels from the signal reflecting the vehicle traveling state, and even if the input torque supplied into a transfer for distributing the driving power into the front and rear wheels is small, a prescribed differential movement restricting force is applied. In this device, a detecting means A for detecting the above-described input torque, means B for judging the state in which the possibility of the increase of the traveling resistance due to the application of the differential movement restricting force exists, and a speed change detecting means C for detecting the generation of speed change are provided. When the state in which the possibility of the reduction of the input torque and the increase of the traveling resistance exists is judged, a controller D controls a differential control means E so that the differential movement restricting force is reduced to zero or close to zero, synchronized with the speed change.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent frequent differential motion from being permitted by suspending the detection of the differential motive condition for front and rear wheels until the condition wherein vehicle speeds are less than a specified one close to zero is continued beyond the specified period of time when differential limiting at the time of high speed running is judged to have been permissible. CONSTITUTION:A front/rear wheel differential motive condition detecting means allows the differential motive condition for front and rear wheels to be detected when specified conditions are satisfied based on the result of the detection, it is judged by a judging means whether or not the differential limiting at the time of high speed running is permissible. And when the condition is judged to have been permissible, a suspension control means suspends the detection, judgement and execution of the differential motive condition for the front and rear wheels until the situation will happen thereafter wherein the differential motive condition for the front and rear wheels is possibly changed, that is, until the condition wherein vehicle speeds are less than a specified one close to zero, is continued beyond the specified period of time. This constitution prevents the frequent differential motive condition for the front and rear wheels from being permitted, thereby enabling a differential limiting means to be improved in durability.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate excessive temporary disengagement and prevent drop in the durability of a hydraulic actuator by restricting temporary disengagement for lubrication within a certain period of time of once being disengaged in case a differential control clutch is disengaged temporarily for the purpose of performing its lubrication. CONSTITUTION:An electronic control device 86 controls a clutch hydraulic control circuit 84 of a differential control clutch 82 so as to increase the differential limiting force in accordance with the car driving force to be decided from the relation between the opening of the throttle valve, gear ratio, and engine revolving speed sensed by respective sensors 106, 108, 117. This differential control clutch 82 is disengaged temporarily every time specified conditions are met, and thus lubrication is conducted positively. Therein temporary disengagement for lubricating the differential control clutch 82 shall be restricted within a certain period of time after the clutch 82 is temporarily disengaged. Thereby excessive temporary disengagements of the clutch 82 are eliminated, which prevents drop in the durability of hydraulic actuator, etc.
