    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a vibration damping effect by a piezoelectric device by dividing electrodes, and suppressing canceling of electric charges generated by the piezoelectric device during high order mode vibration of a second order or higher.
      SOLUTION: In the vibration damper using the piezoelectric device, the piezoelectric device converting mechanical energy of a vibration member into electrical energy is fixed to the vibration member with a face contacting it, and an electrical load converting the electrical energy generated by the piezoelectric device into thermal energy is connected to the electrodes of the piezoelectric device. At least two pairs of mutually independent electrodes 3a, 3b, 3c, and 3d are provided on the piezoelectric device. Since canceling of electric charges generated by the piezoelectric device during high order mode vibration of a second order or higher can be suppressed by dividing the electrodes in such a way, generated electric power can be increased, and the vibration damping effect can be increased. Since vibration of plural orders can be handled by one piezoelectric device, a configuration of a circuit can be simplified.

      SOLUTION: The vibration suppressing device suppresses vibration of a vibrating object whose vibration is to be controlled by transducing the kinetic energy of it into electric energy using a piezoelectric element. A piezoelectric element 7, a weight 8 which is fixed to a part of the piezoelectric element 7, and an electric circuit 9 which changes the electric power generated by the piezoelectric element 7 to heat constitute a vibration deadening unit 5. The vibration deadening unit 5 is stored inside a hollow member 1 fitted to the object. The piezoelectric element 7 is so fixed inside the hollow member 1 so that the part to which the weight 8 is fitted comes to be a free end.
