    • PURPOSE:To realize a fuel additive supply device for supplying a fuel additive to the fuel system of an internal combustion engine for an automobile in a simple constitution and at a low cost without electric control. CONSTITUTION:An additive tank 1 for storing an additive is provided in the vicinity of a supply port of a fuel passage 3 to a fuel tank, the additive tank 1 and the fuel passage 3 are connected to each other by a communicating path 2, and an additive measuring chamber 14 is disposed in the midway of the communicating path 2. A non-return valve 17 is provided on the upstream side of the additive measuring chamber 14, and a pressure valve 16 is provided on the downstream side thereof. A piston 13 is disposed in the additive measuring chamber 14, and the piston 13 is connected to a fuel lid 4 by a link 43. The piston 13 is pressed by opening the fuel lid 4 to pressurize the interior of the additive measuring chamber 14 and discharge the additive. The piston 13 is pulled by closing the fuel lid 4 to reduce the pressure in the additive measuring chamber 14 and to draw the additive from the additive tank 1 into the measuring chamber 14.

    • PURPOSE:To maintain an air-fuel ratio of fuel-air mixture, making a fire, at an air-fuel ratio by which excellent ignition is practicable. CONSTITUTION:First fuel injection F is effected during the suction stroke of an engine to generate fuel-air mixture dispersed throughout the inner whole of a combustion chamber 53 by means of the injection fuel. At the terminal state of a compression stroke, second fuel injection F is effected to generate fuel-air mixture G in a region, limited in the combustion chamber 53, by means of the injection fuel. The fuel-air mixture G is ignited by means of an ignition plug 54 and the fuel-air mixture dispersed throughout the inner whole of the combustion chamber 53 is burnt by means of the ignited fuel-air mixture serving to make a fire. An average air-fuel ratio of the whole of fuel-air mixture generated through the first fuel injection F and the second fuel injection F is controlled to a target average air-fuel ratio. The more the target average air-fuel ratio is increased, the more the percentage of a second injection amount to the total fuel injection among is increased.

    • PURPOSE:To discriminate a specific cylinder in defective operation automatically and immediately by judging the operation of a control valve to this specific cylinder to be defective at the time of the difference value between the rotating speed of the specific cylinder at its explosion stroke and the average rotating speed of all the cylinders exceeding the specified value. CONSTITUTION:In the idling state, a cutoff valve 4 closes the intermediate part of a main intake passage 2 in such a way as to leave the sufficient volume to hold the specified air quantity necessary for an intake port 7 to maintain idling. A control valve 5 switches an auxiliary intake passage 3 by-passing the cutoff valve 4. Hereupon, an ECU 13 detects the rotating speed of a crankshaft every explosion stroke of each cylinder 1, determines each detected rotating speed as the rotating speed of the specific cylinder 1 at its explosion stroke at that time and compares each rotating speed with the average rotating speed of all the cylinders. When the difference value between both rotating speed exceeds the specified value, the ECU judges the operation of the control valve 5 to the specific cylinder to be defective. The specific cylinder 1, to which the defective operation of the control valve 5 is generated, can be thereby discriminated automatically and immediately.
