摘要： PURPOSE:To increase purification efficiency, in a monolithic catalyzer purifying a harmful component in exhaust has from an internal combustion engine, by flowing the exhaust gas only through the central part of the catalyzer immediately after atarting of the engine further flowing the exhaust gas fully through the catalyzer after warm up of the exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:In a ctalytic converter 1, a monolithic catalyzer 2 is held in an outer shell 3 by retainers 5, 5' through cushions 4, 4', consisting of heat resistant material, simultaneously a wire net 6, for protecting said catalyzer 2 from damage, is interposed between the monolithic catalyzer 2 and the outer shell 3. Then a selector valve 9, for flowing exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine to the catalyzer central part 2a and the whole unit, is provided to the junction part of an inlet cone 7 and exhaust pipe 8 in the catalyzer converter 1. Then the selector valve 9 is controlled by a suitable control device, to both flow exhaust gas only through the catalyzer central part 2a at cold time immediately after starting of the internal combustion engine and flow the exhaust gas fully through the catalyzer parts 2a, 2b after the exhaust gas is fully warmed.

CONSTITUTION:The Pt/Rh ratio of a monolithic type Pt-Rh ternary catalyst structure for cleaning automobile exhaust is continuously changed by adhering Rh high- densely and Pt low-densely on the exhaust inlet side of the honeycomb-structure support 3A of the catalyst structure and also adhering Rh low-densely and Pt high- densely on the discharge side of the catalyst support 3A. The honeycomb structure support 3A is set in a Pt-impregnating tank 4, an operation involving pushing up a Pt-containing liquid L up to the tank 4 by compressed air and soon forcing it down to a supplying portion 5 by an ejector is repeated until a desired adhesion density of Pt is obtained, and then support 3A is taken out and dried. Then, the exhaust inlet side (a) and the discharge side (b) of the support 3A is reversed and then subjected to the same operation using Rh-containing liquid instead of Pt-containing liquid. Thus, a catalyst structure having Pt/Rh ratio continuously changing in the flow direction of the exhaust can be obtained.

摘要： PURPOSE:To facilitate the regeneration of the exhaust particle collection filter of a diesel engine, by detecting the clogging of the filter and heating exhaust particles to burn. CONSTITUTION:The exhaust gas G of a diesel engine is purified by a trapper 14 which acts as a particle collection filter. The purified exhaust gas is discharged to the outside. When the trapper 14 becomes clogged so that the back pressure is heightened, the clogging is detected by a back pressure sensor 21. The conditions of the engine are applied to a controller 20. The controller 20 can find out that the trapper 14 needs to be regenerated. In that case, the controller 20 operates an actuator 16 and an electric heater 15 at the upstriam end of the trapper 14 and drives a secondary air supply pump 19 to burn exhaust particles in the trapper 14 when the engine is stopped. The controller 20 stops the operation and driving when it is detected by temperature sensors 24, 25 that the exhaust particles are burned up to the downstream end of the trapper 14. The trapper 14 is thus regenerated.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide the catalyst which has high performance to clean up three harmful constituents of the exhaust gas, by causing a catalyst carrier coated with a spinel-structured metal oxide to carry platinum or palladium and also carry rhodium. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst carrier such as alpha-alumina or magnesia is coated with a spinel-structured metal oxide represented as MAl2O4 where (M denotes Sr, Mg or the like). After that, the carrier is caused to carry at least one of platinum and palladium and also carry rhodium. This results in providing the catalyst for cleaning up the exhaust gas. The catalyst simultaneously cleans up CO, HC and HOx of the exhaust gas with high efficiency in a wide range of air fuel ratio.
