摘要： When the operating characteristics of an intake valve are changed by an intake valve stop mechanism (8), an ECU (26) outputs a command signal (control on) to a solenoid (68). At this time, a timing, at which the command signal is output to the solenoid (68), is determined on the basis of a rotational position of a crankshaft, calculated from a signal of a crank position sensor (28). However, the output timing is corrected on the basis of a rotational phase difference of a camshaft (4) with respect to the crankshaft.

Thus, when any device relating to vehicle control fails, the continued use of learned values affected by the failure after the failed device is repaired is prevented.

摘要： A fuel injection amount is controlled so that the air-fiiel ratio of exhaust gas flowing into a catalyst (6) oscillates around a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. When it is estimated that the level of oxygen storage capacity of the catalyst (6) is lower than a predetermined reference capacity, the amplitude of the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas which oscillates around the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio is reduced by controlling the fuel injection amount. The level of the oxygen storage capacity of the catalyst (6) is estimated based on the amplitude of the output signal from an oxygen sensor (14) disposed downstream of the catalyst (6).

摘要： In a limited-current type gas sensor which detects oxygen-containing gas contained in an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, the decomposition current value of water (H 2 O) is detected, and the existence of an abnormality of output characteristics of the limited-current type gas sensor is diagnosed based on its deviation from a reference decomposition current value of water corresponding to the concentration of water contained in the exhaust gas. Thereby, not only an oxygen sensor (air-fuel-ratio sensor), but also a NOx sensor and a SOx sensor can accurately and easily diagnose not only a remarkable abnormality of output characteristics, but also a minute abnormality thereof. In addition, the reference decomposition current value of water may be acquired based on the concentration of water detected by a separate humidity sensor or the decomposition current value of oxygen detected by the limited-current type gas sensor. In the latter case, the reference decomposition current value of water may be corrected based on a decomposition current value of oxygen detected during a fuel cut.

摘要： An internal combustion engine is equipped with an exhaust purification catalyst (20), an upstream air-fuel ratio sensor (40), a downstream air-fuel ratio sensor (41), and sensor heaters (56) of the upstream air-fuel ratio sensor (40) and the downstream air-fuel ratio sensor (41). A control device comprises an air-fuel ratio control part configured to control the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas and a heating control part configured to control the heating of the air-fuel ratio sensors. The heating control part controls the sensor heaters so that the temperature of the upstream air-fuel ratio sensor (40) becomes less than the activation temperature and so that the temperature of the downstream air-fuel ratio sensor (41) becomes the activation temperature or more while the internal combustion engine is stopped by the automatic stop function. The air-fuel ratio control part controls the exhaust air-fuel ratio based on the outputs of the two air-fuel ratio sensors during engine operation and control the air-fuel ratio temporarily based on only the output of the downstream air-fuel ratio sensor (41) after the internal combustion engine has been restarted after automatic stop.
