    • The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for for assembling a differential gear device (10). The inventive method comprises a step of holding a pair of pinions (36L,36R) and respective washers (60L,60R) by means of a first holder (154,156), with the washers being in contact with the respective pinions, and introducing the pinions into the differential case in order to achieve a meshing engagement of the pinions with differential side gears arranged in the case. The holder and the case are then rotated relative to each other in order to rotate the pinions and the case relative to each other. After the first holder (154,156) has released the pinions, a second holder (106,111) is brought into engagement with the washers and pinions and is rotated, in order to rotate the pinions and the case relative to each other into a position in which a pinion shaft can be inserted into the case and the pinions with washers. Further, an apparatus is described for performing the method described above.
