    • An air bag unit for a vehicle wherein a distributing body (40) is provided for deflecting a flow of gas injected from an inflator (20) toward a circumferential direction of a bag (10) and a tether (24) is provided at a position which is not in a gas flow injecting direction. Therefore, since the gas flow is not blocked by the tether, there is no risk of the gas flow being deflected toward an occupant, and the gas securely flows to the circumferential side of the bag, whereby the inflating speed of the bag toward the occupant side can be reduced. In addition, even if there are two backward and forward gas flow injecting directions, it is possible to direct the gas flows along the full length of the circumference of the bag in a well-balanced fashion by adopting a bag folding method where the bag is more difficult to inflate in the gas flow injecting direction than in a direction perpendicular to the gas flow injecting direction.
