    • FLUID SEPARATION ELEMENT of the disclosure: The invention relates to a fluid separation element comprising a casing and a bundle of selectively permeable hollow fibers accomodated therein, the bundle being potted with a resinous potting agent at the end portions and the gaps between the hollow fibers being blocked with the resinous potting agent. The hollow fibers are such that (1) the ratio of the porosity of the membrane of the hollow fibers at the effective permeation portion (HA) and the porosity of the membrane of the hollow fibers at the potting portion (HB) satisfies the following condition: 0.9 > HB/HA > 0.4; and (2) the outer diameter of the hollow fibers at the effective permeation portion (ODA) and the outer diameter of the hollow fibers at the potting portion (ODB) satisfies the following condition: 0.95 > ODB/ODA > 0.7. By using such fibers, a firm potting between the hollow fibers and the resinous potting agent is achieved, and a good separation efficiency without an increase in pressure loss can be maintained for a long period of time.

    • 1,224,843. Aromatic polyesters. TOYO BOSEKI K.K. 28 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 21630/69. Heading C3R. [Also in Division C2] A high molecular weight polyester is produced by reacting a benzene dicarboxylic acid with ethylene oxide in the presence of an inert organic solvent and of a catalyst which is an amine or a salt of an amine with a carboxylic acid, until 55 to 90% of all the carboxylic acid groups have been esterified, removing solvent and reducing the unreacted ethylene oxide content, the temperature not exceeding 180‹ C. during these stages, and then polycondensing the resulting product at a temperature above 180‹ C. The amount of unreacted ethylene oxide should be reduced to satisfy the equation in which EO is the mol number of unreacted ethylene oxide per mol. of esterification product and ES (per cent) is the degree of esterification of the acid. 20-200% by weight of the inert organic solvent, based upon the weight of the acid, may be employed. Preferably the esterification product is heated to above 120‹ C. in order to effect removal of solvent and ethylene oxide.

    • PURPOSE:To carry out uniform permeation by gathering a number of single fiber line of hollow fiber together, winding the same into a flat fiber line bundle and transferring and forming gradually spiral traverse crossing sections in the given positions in the winding length direction in circumferential shape. CONSTITUTION:A number of single fiber lines of hollow fibers 5 are gathered together to form flat fiber line bundles 22a, and reciprocating traverse winding is carried out with spiral angle in the range of 5-60 deg. to the axis of a porous flowing cylinder 8. At that time, fiber line bundles 22a in the same spiral direction are disposed in a manner to be adjacent to the fiber line bundles wound just before in parallel in a manner that side edge sections are overlapped each other. On the other hand, crossing sections 25 are formed overlapping each other to the fiber line bundles in the opposite spiral direction, and the crossing sections 25 are formed successively in the giving positions of the winding flowing cylindrical body 8 and on the same circumference. Layers are formed with the fiber line bundles in parallel in the positions other than the crossing sections 25, while fiber line bundles 22a having different spiral direction are laminated alternately in the thickness direction. As a result, uniform permeation can be carried out.

    • PURPOSE:To perform membrane separation action of high permeation flow and separation efficiency with small pressure difference by admitting the liquid to be treated from the hollow cylindrical part of a cylindrical hollow fiber layer which is packed with selective permeability hollow fibers at specific densities. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical assembly 2 which is intersectionally disposed with hollow fibers of cellulose acetate, aromatic polyamide, etc. of 10-1,000mu in outside diameter and 3-80% in percentage of hollowness having selective permeability characteristics at 45-70% filling rate is supported by means of resin walls 3, 4 at both ends and a stanchion 20 and is put into a case 1. A cavity part 7 is axially provided at the center of the assembly 2, and one end thereof is connected to the conduit 11 penetrating in the resin wall 4 and the end plate 6 of the case 1. The hollow fibers are set in a U shape and both ends thereof are extruded to the outside of the assembly 2 through the resin wall 3. The water to be treated such as salt water is admitted through the conduit 11, and is pressure-fed into the hollow fiber layer 2 uniformly. The water permeates through the hollow fiber walls and is taken out from an outlet 9. The liquid concd. of other contents passes among the fiber layers and is discharged from an outlet 12 through the annular flow passage on the outer side.
