    • A process for casting slip into a ceramic product using at least one unique casting mold. The casting mold is formed of a plurality of separate porous mold parts, each of which has a fluid-tight outer face, an inner molding surface and a plurality of channels therein. The mold parts are combined so that the inner molding surfaces define a molding cavity in the mold. The casting mold is positioned within a pressure container such that a space is established surrounding the casting mold within the pressure container. This space is in fluid communication with the molding cavity of the mold. The casting process further includes the steps of: sealing the pressure container; firmly clamping the casting mold; feeding slip under a first pressure into the molding cavity until the molding cavity is filled with slip; supplying a fluid under a second pressure higher than the first pressure into the space surrounding the casting mold thereby applying the second pressure to the slip in the molding cavity and to the inner molding surfaces of the mold parts to form a cast layer of a predetermined thickness within the molding cavity; depressurizing the channels to drain water accumulated therein; discharging residual slip from the molding cavity; and removing the casting mold from the pressure container.

    • A method of making a porous mold used in pressure casting for forming ceramic articles, which includes the steps of: removably attaching a plurality of apertured holding members in an array at a desired interval to the inner face of an upper case made of a rigid material; threading a flexible line into the apertures of the holding members in each row to hold it at a predetermined spacing from the inner face of the upper case, at least one of the two ends of the flexible line being extended to the outside of the upper case; casting slurry into a mold cavity which is defined between the upper case and a lower basic case joined to the former case to form a porous mold; removing the upper case from the porous mold after the slurry has cured, while leaving the holding members together with the flexible lines in the porous mold; and extracting the flexible lines from the porous mold to form channels in the porous mold.

    • Herein disclosed is a method of making a porous mold by using an upper case which bears lines for forming channels for water and air communications. The method of making a porous mold includes attaching holding members in an array at a desired interval to an upper case made of a rigid material such that they project a predetermined distance from the inner surface of said upper case; removably attaching flexible lines to said holding members; passing at least one end of each of said flexible lines through said upper case to the outside of said upper case; casting slurry into a molding cavity which is defined by said upper case and a base joined to the former case to form a porous mold; removing said upper case together with said holding members from the porous mold after said slurry has cured so that said holding members are disengaged from said flexible lines to leave the latter in said porous mold; filling up the holes, which are left in the porous mold at the traces of said holding members, with a resin; and pulling said flexible lines out of the porous mold to form channels in said porous mold after said resin has cured.
