摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition which melts and flows when heated, excels in exactness of print and reproducibility of hue and can give a clear and apparently transparent print, by mixing a specified copolymer dyed with an acidic dye with a wax and/or a resin. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer (a) is obtained by polymerizing at least 60mol.% at least one (meth)acrylic ester (i) which is an ester of a 12-22C (un)saturated aliphatic alcohol with (meth)acrylic acid (e.g., stearyl methacrylate) and at least 1mol.% at least one monomer (ii) having an acidic dye-dyeable dye site, which is an amine salt (e.g., methacryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride) in a solvent at 10-100 deg.C in the presence of a polymerization initiator. A product (A) is obtained by dyeing component (a) with an acidic dye (b) at room temperature - 100 deg.C. 99pts.wt. or below, per 100pts.wt. obtained composition, component A is mixed with a wax and/or a resin (B) of an m.p. of 50-200 deg.C (e.g., paraffin wax).

The thermal transfer recording medium does not require pigment- dispersing step in the production thereof, and makes it possible to enhance dot accuracy of printed images and reproducibility of tones.

The aqueous colored polymer is prepared by polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated sulfonic acid or its salt, or its mixture with other ethylenically unsaturated monomer by an aqueous solution or emulsion polymerization procedure at a temperature of not higher than 100.degree.C in a specified amount of water and then adding a basic dye to the resulting polymer solution or emulsion, or : carrying out this solution or emulsion polymerization in the presence of a basic dye. The aqueous polymer is useful as an aqueous ink such as an ink for the ink jet recording.
